Even if we were sitting comfortably in mid table, we could have lost this game, it has nothing to do with us being in relegation zone...Chelsea are a better team. With a bit more luck we could have got something, but I think the team gave it a good go the 2nd half after going behind.
We almost played that game to the perfect Plan. We switched off in the first 30 seconds after half time and then a decision went against us and they go up the other end and score straight away. First half didn’t look pretty, but we were very disciplined and clearly following a game plan., even if it didn’t look very pretty. Hazard was impressive. If you want a comparison on a push in the back, look at the free kick given against Romeu on Cahill and compare that to the push on Wes Hoedt.
Wasn’t a lack of effort today, apart from maybe Cedric who was terrible. Was simply that Chelsea are a better football team. Can’t comment on the goal for us that was disallowed as I was up the other end of the stadium, but the Hoedt foul was in front of me and didnt look too bad, but will wait to see a replay before commenting.
Yep, that is how I saw it. Sad, but proud. Come on City, 5 or 6 and we can start dreaming for the not happening.
I don't think I can be stuffed watching any more of us this season. I don't even care if we're already doomed to relegation, I just want to be able to watch Saints play and it not feel like I've wasted my time watching people half-arse around as a football team for 90 minutes. If we lose, it's a bummer, but i'd at least like to see the players actually CARE that they've lost or give a performance that isn't riddled with errors and unimaginative football.
I fully understand what Poll said about the law, however they all seem to have missed a point. Didn’t the keeper touch Charlie? I think that rule will get changed now, just like our last visit to Wembley, when an injustice against us led to a rule change.
On the tube. Hazard ripped us a new one, and if it wasn’t for bad luck etcetc. Thought Bednarek and PEH were our two best players, so was confused they were the two to come off (though Dusan and Nathan made a big difference). My main gripe though - I was amongst a group of Saints fans who took it on themselves to argue and try and fight one another for the majority of the second half. One bloke spent most of the match slagging off Shane, which another group took exception to and tried to ‘get involved’ telling him to support the team. That same group then all left as soon as the second goal went in. Yeah great support lads. Thick as pigshit, to a man. One of the lippiest ones trying to stir it all up was a scrawny little **** (who spent the whole game slagging Lemina by the way, but irony not on his radar, clearly) looked at a push like he might be able to hurt you by way of a crossword, but that was it. Utterly pathetic bunch. All of them. I left embarrassed by some of our ‘fans’ who only served to ruin the experience for a large group of people.
But if a keepers feet is off the ground in the 6 yard box wouldn't everyone do it and "make sure" they were fouled? I think Poll just made things up.
Well that was frustrating. Second half we created more and I actually thought was better despite the goals. Not sure how we didn't score. And now I've got to navigate this massive queue.... and it just started raining. Sums it up.
Yeah unfortunately Lemina just seems to be a massive waste of talent. He could be so good. Was terrible today. Davis or JWP should have been in.
That rule doesnt exist. There used to be a similar rule but the "not touching whilst mid-air in the 6 yard box" has been fabricated.
Missed most of the first half owing to the taxi driver from Southampton airport not taking my suggestion of using Burgess Road to skirt round the closed roads, ending up being diverted here, there and everywhere, before ending up in fecking Burgess Road What I saw was a team trying to manage Chelsea, with a plan to, maybe, become more positive the longer it stayed at 0-0. Unfortunately we were undone by one of the best individual goals I have seen in many a year. That wasn’t bad defending, it was sheer brilliance by Giroud, having players diving all over the place in the manner of George Best. Of course, we had the obligatory feck up by the ref, stopping us from equalising. Chaz didn’t even back into the keeper, but just as last week’s ref saw no foul on Long, this one imagined a foul on the Chelsea keeper. Good to see the players have taken on board Hughes’ comments about being prepared to commit fouls in the right areas of the pitch. Saw plenty today stopping Chelsea in their own half, allowing the defence to remain, for the most part, in shape. Just need to be more subtle about it to prevent the early yellow cards, that prevent proper tackles being made, later in the game.
