- Both sides have met five times in the Europe, but Liverpool have been slightly better with two wins and two draws
Roma won away today at SPAL (whoever they are, relegation threatened). Score was 0-3, and they rested 2 or 3 'names'.
Shrugs... going to be one hell of a tough game. Italians can defend. We have to get a lead. Complete knife edge game. I'm just happy to be at this level
Italians... Pasta is their weakness. They're easily distracted by spaghetti legs. Perhaps put some Rotini on the center circle, they won't make it into our half.
The Away Goal. Absolutely crucial in Roma’s progress and would be in this tie. Our very very top priority is to stop them scoring even one away goal even dare I say it to the detriment of our scoring. A 0-0 at Anfield would be a good result.
Don't agree on result being 0-0 3-1 at home is much better than 0-0 For me a lead is a lead. It's only when there's 2 or 3 away goals does it become an issue. One away goal can always be nullified in second leg if we go with lead. Worse results are score draws or losses at home. Another 3-0 would be superb of course. 0-0 For me allows Italians do what Italians do best... defend deep and look for odd goal. We need to kill this lot early and make them chase game and we hit on counter.
I meant to say that it is not a disaster as it may initially appear. A 2-1 isnotmuch better than a 0-0. Because with both results the opposition need to score. For Roma if they win 1-0 they go through on both scenarios. They go out on 0-0 or 1-1 or any score draws. If we can’t win big then I’ll take a 0-0.
With the way you defend crosses and with Dzeko leading their line, you don’t want to be conceding any set pieces / corners on Tuesday imo. If you score early you could build up a head of steam and crush them, if you don’t and they slowly grow into the game I’d fancy them to notch. It’ll be interesting to see how they set up tactically and how they try and contain Salah.
I get into but any win is better than 0-0 especially for Italians would would go to extra time and pens at home no problem. 2-1 3-2 it'd personally take all of those over 0-0 at home. when the opposition need to attack us we do better.
the reality is we will concede set pieces everyone does. the issue with west Brom is they spotted a weakness at far post and went after it. we can only do our best and frankly are well out of our depth so attack is our best form of defence. we just need to attack and be intense and what will be will be.
it's a knife edge. really it's all about mindset for second leg. if the Italians need to attack and have to come out that's our ideal. we don't want them sitting deep protecting as we are not good in those circumstsnces. 3-2 means they know only one goal is enough and us scoring itsnt tie over so they can have a more confident mindset for me this is why away leg first is best for us. Get the away goal and sides crack at Anfield then. we have home leg first so just need to set it up that the second leg suits our style. I don't think we pass through sides well. we play vertically and quickly. we can beat a player or make a flick etc and score but put us v a massed defense and we struggle. esp players like Henderson, windy etc hopefully the intensity off game and Anfield will crack this lot as they should be coming to defend and Nick one.
