This is why Lee Johnson will stay at Bristol City this summer
Head coach could not be tempted elsewhere currently

He, of course, said that Bristol City could reach Europe within five years when he first joined Mark Ashton and Steve Lansdown in the summer and still believes that to be realistic in the longer term.

However a move to another club would not appeal currently.

Firstly, the head coach believes that there is work to do at Ashton Gate still with his team progressing well, building on last season nicely, and although likely to fall short of the play-offs, if the club trades well in the summer there is no reason to not think that the Robins will challenge again next year.

"We're not the finished article. We're only really in stage three of five and we're building in-flight," the head coach explained to BristolLive recently.

The squad is ranked as the fifth youngest in the Championship and added maturity and experience will see the players develop and perform better next year.

Secondly, the head coach has a very carefully and well constructed set-up around him. From part-time work with former England psychologist Bill Beswick to dad Gary Johnson providing advice just up the road in Cheltenham to family members working at AFC Wimbledon and Fulham, to Mervyn Day heading up the scouting.

Johnson has a carefully built-up perfect set-up in BS3 and beyond.

With the facilities on offer at Ashton Gate and shrewd investment from the owner, Johnson is nicely placed and will look to the academy – where there are several top prospects – to further build upon.

City face a tough task as they drive towards long-term sustainability but record attendances and season card sales show the potential at the club.

If further improvement on the pitch comes then the Robins and Johnson will not be too far away from the Premier League.

Thirdly, Johnson himself, I understand, has some developments in the pipelines along with father Gary.

News on this should be released soon, but it further underlines why the head coach would be unlikely to uproot his family and young daughter – who Johnson recently explained with pride how he had watched perform at the Bristol Hippodrome – for another Championship or lower Premier League side.

Perhaps if one of England’s titans came calling that might upset the status quo. However, that time has not or may never come.

Johnson will work on in BS3 then and try to further push the Robins up the branches of the English football tree.

The perception outside the club is that Johnson and Bristol City have had a good season.

And on Wednesday Johnson talked about his belief that Famara Diedhiou can really kick on and become a key Championship player for City next season. Building at Bristol City continues.

I thought LJ would avoid making comments after his Europe in 5 years but there is some logic in what he has now layed out..

    * "We're not the finished article. We're only really in stage three of five and we're building in-flight,"

    * Secondly, the head coach has a very carefully and well constructed set-up around him.

*Thirdly, Johnson himself, I understand, has some developments in the pipelines along with father Gary.
News on this should be released soon, but it further underlines why the head coach would be unlikely to uproot his family and young daughter.

    * Johnson will work on in BS3 then and try to further push the Robins up the branches of the English football tree.

    This man is moving nowhere.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if he's had enough and was tempted too move on, some of the stick he has been getting from City fans has been ridiculous

He has had to be. FFS he has had death threats to his family in the past - that’s unacceptable and unbelievable.

Lee is FAR from being the worst manager we have had at Ashton Gate in my memory - yet he has taken FAR more abuse. Possibly his father took a disproportionate amount too.
Incredible really - both have been rather good to be fair and neither have got us relegated.

Why not threaten SOD or Delboy? They were worse and SOD took us DOWN (of course I don’t condone threatening anyone, but why LJ and not those others who were worse is beyond me).

    He must have rhino skin.

SoD joined us mid-January and we were bottom at the time. For all of his faults, criticising him for taking us down is harsh.

That’s a fair comment - but LJ took over when we were in the relegation zone and pulled us clear but isn’t given much recognition for that either.

R&W, I think you could make a case for the caretaker manager after Cotterill who arrested our slump.
    LJ then sacked him.
    Who cares, its history.

the problem with the modern day is a very few can sound off and it is with modern media escalated to Everest proportions !

    21000 fans

likely 16000 or so go each week/support and laugh at either the negative aspect fans or positive aspect or take no notice at all
of the remaining 5000 half or more are probably voiciferous in favour of LEE and the City season which leaves maybe at most 2000 ? or so belying the seasons achievement.
of the 2000 maybe a hand full are hell bent on being super negative, that is their life always wanting more than they are likely to ever be able to achieve........
to Leee and the City board/management they are like a few midges that appear occasionally during the summer months... [ skin so soft is good at keeping them at bay!]

Good point RP. I liked Pembo - but remember as soon as he was ‘sacked’ our results improved and we stayed up and that was last season ;)

So what does that comment about GJ in the article mean then?

Are we about to hear that he is coming back in a DoF type role? While I liked Gary I can't help thinking that would be a very bad move.

I'm a bit worried about that hint now.

Fair point, but remember also the purse strings were loosened dramatically.

Maybe but only to pay for Pembertons addition in Tomlin.
It’s getting monotonous, your jibes about purse strings bollocks all the time.
No matter how many times, people have mentioned Cotts was afforded the bids of 9 million for Gray and Gayle plus the 2.3 million succeeded bid for Kodjia. It was also documented that we had a offer in agreed for Harry Maguire and few others with Cotterill but an ex employee took it on himself to go in with lower offers than agreed and mess the deals up.
But hey because it’s LJ let’s talk about purse strings being loosened.

Enjoy the game anyway I’m in New York and will be up the One World Observatory whilst it’s on. And then in the 911 museum.

All this is probably irrelevant anyway. He wasn’t sacked when he should have been last season Fair play - he/we recovered and despite the poor run of recent results being still in with a faint shout of the playoffs with 3 games left is beyond my wildest dreams, so this season has been a success in my book whatever happens.
Regardless of it being LJ, any manager who has had the backing of his chairman like Lee has would be crazy to walk - unless the constant verbal from certain areas of our fan base are affecting his mental well-being.

Strings bollocks - you believe the bollocks that comes out of AG. I don't.
What you believe is conjecture, nobody knows categorically about the bids you mention.
Whereas the 20 plus signings and loans, largely unsuccessful, of LJ is fact.

    Enjoy New York.

It is a shock that a current manager spends more than managers in the past. It’s almost like there’s a lot of money in football and clubs get more money every year.

    New York -

Did you realise that in the little-known war between the US and Canada/Britain, the British and the Canadians punched their way south and captured all the significant east coast US cities, whilst the US forces advanced north on the western side of the continent.
Then, someone in their infinite wisdom negotiated the return of those vital trading ports and the map returned to what it is now.
Given that all trade at that time was by sea - and we had the strongest navy in the world back then, it seems a strange deal to arrange - but I’m neither a historian nor a military planner so hey ho. Perhaps Invermere knows why.
Sorry - got distracted for a moment then.... back to the football....!!!!
