I wonder if they’ll get Ollie to takeover? Merci Arsène View attachment upload_2018-4-20_10-2-36.gif Arsène Wenger has issued the following statement: “After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season. “I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years. “I managed the club with full commitment and integrity. “I want to thank the staff, the players, the Directors and the fans who make this club so special. “I urge our fans to stand behind the team to finish on a high. “To all the Arsenal lovers take care of the values of the club. "My love and support for ever.” Arsene Wenger
Wenger went to Arsenal in October '96. Here's a list of QPR managers in the same period ... Stewart Houston John Hollins Ray Harford Iain Dowie Gerry Francis Ian Holloway Gary Waddock John Gregory Mick Harford Luigi De Canio Iain Dowie Gareth Ainsworth Paulo Sousa Gareth Ainsworth Jim Magilton Steve Gallen / Marc Bircham Paul Hart Mick Harford Neil Warnock Mark Hughes Mark Bowen / Eddie Niedzwiecki Harry Redknapp Bond / Ferdinand / Ramsey Chris Ramsey / Kevin Bond Chris Ramsey Neil Warnock Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink Ian Holloway
Wenger’s legacy, however tarnished by merely winning the FA Cup in recent years, looks pretty impressive compared to that lot. He is a great manager, sticks to his principles on how the game should be played. I bet his transfer budget has been pretty small compared to his main competitors and that Arsenal are in good financial shape too (haven’t looked it up though). Just his eye for a player has let him down in recent years. And he built the Gooners a lovely new library.
When Wenger took charge of his first Arsenal match ... Brighton were bottom of the fourth tier, 13 current Premier League managers were still players, John Major was Prime Minister, Bill Clinton was US President, The Chemical Brothers were No 1 with 'Setting Sun.'
And my son was 7 months old. Is Wenger looking for another job? Bet he wins the Champions League for PSG next season.
Arsenal supporters are so fickle. Any other club would treat him like a king for what he has achieved.
Yes, that's Arsenal fans for you, not all but most of them imo I work with a gunners ST ticket holder and boy does he like to winge about how bad they have been the last few years... I'm so glad I'm a QPR fan.
Only manager to win the title undefeated and set the record of 49 matches without defeat, you can't take that away from him and he deserves all the plaudits as he was years ahead of his time. Sadly, the game caught up and then left him behind. At least he has made the decision and I wouldn't be surprised to see him finish on a high winning the Europa League for a fitting end to a great career...
