The news Arsenal fans have been waiting for, for a very long time. Wenger is leaving.

Long overdue. A shame he's tarnished a great reputation by not knowing when to quit.

There has always been the case of keeping a manager for too long. This is one such case. For a club with such resources and support they have really underachieved. At any other similar club he would be sacked ages ago but no one had the balls to do that.

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Arsene Wenger: "I am surprised. It is his decision. I respect that. He is an influence in football. Had a fantastic career. Outstanding personality.

"He was there for so long, 22 years is a long time. Maybe in last few months not everybody was happy with this result or that.

"He was the dominating guy in mid 1990s, 2000s. It is different now because we have to challenge but in Germany he was a big role model.

"It will be different. Maybe he will go somewhere else. I wish him all the best."

He meant to say but was too polite:

“He was there for TOO long, 22 years is a long time. Maybe in last few months not everybody was happy with this result or that.”

We don’t know it was his decision. Reading between the lines, he was pressed by the executives to leave.

He should have read the handwriting on the wall long time ago. He waited till he was pushed.

If he wins europa and club are back in CL then all is forgiven.

    #ficklefans

    he's been ****e this year.

If you look at last year the points tally of 75 would get CL this season and seasons before so with fa cups coming out his ears and the same league performance for years the crime he's committed is not winning the league in an era when mega money is at play.

I would in general agree that club had the massive resources and he's probably stopped them challenging but they've dleivered

I would have to add: The damage is not on pitch.

It is organisationally and nothing arsenal have done in last 6 months will be enough to repair that. they are crippled by noting having the expertise in footballing matters at high level in club and don't have the technical acumen.

    his record

FA Premier League (3): 1997–98, 2001–02, 2003–04 (all pre chelseas and city mega bucks)
    FA Cup (7): 1997–98, 2001–02, 2002–03, 2004–05, 2013–14, 2014–15, 2016–17 (all in last few years #success )
    FA Community Shield (7): 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2014, 2015, 2017 (who cares)

    Football League Cup Runner-up 2006-07 2010-11, 2017-2018
    CL runners up 2005/06

I think we are quite harsh on wenger for not winning things and its all gone wrong at the end. Rafa ended 7th.

    2004–05 2nd
    2005–06 4th 67
    2006–07 4th 68
    2007–08 3rd
    2008–09 4th
    2009–10 3rd
    2010–11 4th 68
    2011–12 3rd
    2012–13 4th
    2014–15 3rd
    2015–16 2nd
    2016–17 5th (75points)
    2017/18 6th

They have been there or thereabouts and the accusation is he held them back.. well he probably did under himself as manager not spedning more on right areas and coddling his players. But under another man? who knows.

I agree but its on arsenal not on him.

    Same as ferguson.

Its on both clubs that their structures off the park were allowed to get to a state that take the big guy out and it all falls apart.

Klopp's told lfc when he's going <laugh> if LFC fail to prepare and have the off the field stuff right its our own bloody fault.

    tehcnical director
    scouting system
academy and first team coaching structures etc.

none are jobs for 1st team manager

His top four speciality has faded away, if he is still making the top four and occasional trophy he is not going to leave.
Arsenal now have to be spending big to catch up.

Brilliant manager, Shame the last 10 years kind of tarnished his reputation.

Prob best thing could do is announce it now so al arsenal fans can get behind the team for final few games, be no bad vibes around and give team a boost before EL semi final.

And give him a nice send off on last game of season.

If he was getting top 4 he definitely was going to stay. They decided to give him a chance this year but when he again failed and meant 2 years in a row out of CL, he had to be sacked. Especially with the chaos and discontent in the terraces.

I heard it was only because of one person his job was safe for so long?

If true, maybe that person no longer has influence or power over rest and they told him wenger has to go and they are doing it the nice way.

Wenger built some great teams, re-organised the entire club, (some might say the entire league), by new methods of training, diets. He was instrumental in building the prems first purpose built academy/training centre. He guided the club through the period they were building a new ground at massive expense and still kept the team competitive. The only things that have let him down are staying a bit to long and his very poor eyesight which hampered him when questioned by commentators about incidents on the pitch:rolleyes:
