The guy wants to play football... can't argue with that.

Definitely so, but would a loan move have been a better option? We have made money on it I suppose with the undisclosed fee, but its not as if we needed whatever that fee was,and if he did make it with Brighton we have a player ready should we drop, and one we could sell on for a bigger fee if we didn't, a small gamble imo

Maybe so, but if we drop down to the Championship we'll still have a dearth of Championship quality midfielders (Kemy, Leon, Gower, Joey, Dobbie, Routledge, Sinclair, Dyer) so it is a pretty safe gamble I think. The boards thinking is probably "Do we fancy making money for doing nothing?" The guy has probably been with the squad for about 2 weeks total, and you'd imagine we are going to make a couple of hundred thousand out of it? Not bad for doing nothing!

I've got a feeling that Harley will go on to bigger things. Poyet is a good judge of a player and I hope this decision doesn't come back to haunt us. Wish him the best of luck anyway.

Think you mean 'glut' not 'dearth" ?

Really? Can't see Sinclair, Dyer, Routledge or Allen staying is we go back down myself. Definately should have been a loan deal, I hope we at least have a buy back clause in there somewhere.

I did mean glut, not dearth! Hah.

If we lost Sinclair, Dyer, Routledge and Allen then, seeing as they're all on long term contracts, you'd expect to raise 10 million plus from their sales. It would be horrific to watch but we'd bring in replacements I'm sure.

Still early but looks promising. Showed glimpses against sunderland midweek after settling. Tended to drift in and out of the game today but i guess the same could be said for many creative midfielders. He is different to anything else we have in the middle and I look forward to him linking well with Mackail-Smith. CMS likes to play on the shoulder of the last defender and until we signed Harley we didn't really have anyone with enough craft to feed him. He will benefit a lot from working under Gus. Clearly likes to beat a player but maybe did it too often today and gave the ball away a couple of times trying to be clever when an easy bal was on. All in all very encouraged and think he's a steal at £250k. Now he's got 2 weeks to really settle and train with the team. Can't wait to see him in the middle with Buckley & Noone on the wings with CMS and Hoskins up front. Someone is going to get a battering. Hopefully it will be Palace.

ah didn't know he played for you against them ;) you did better than us lol I hope he is the answer for you, I never got to see him play for us in the league, so its a bit sad that I can't tell you how well he did for us, be looking out for your results over the season to see how he is getting on <ok>

He's good and going to get better, imo. Should have sent him on loan, not sold him. Goal scoring midfielders are valuable commodities and it would have cost us nothing to see how he developed elsewhere. I said before that I thought it was a mistake and I still think so.

Hard to argue with that ivor, the only mitigating factor I can think of is I saw some quotes from Harley saying things to the effect of "I almost signed for Brighton in January, maybe I should have with hindsight." so it looks like he's obviously been thinking about it a lot.

You'd rather have sold an established, integral part of our team who's been here for god knows how many years, than someone who's never played a game for the club and who you've never seen play? Hmm.
