    That’s why the VAR overrule has the ‘clear and obvious’ caveat. If the ref viewing the VAR and the match official can’t agree, then it’s not clear and obvious, that’s where the trial has shown the flaws that need addressing imo.

    They should definitely persevere with though, as once the teething problems are ironed out, it will stop the kind game changing mistakes that we see virtually every week

    If refereeing standards are poor then the solution is to improve refereeing standards, not bypass referees.
    Subjectivity will remain. We already see incidents from many angles pored over repeatedly in the studio, but people still disagree over them. VAR cannot solve that issue. It may clear up a handful of objective incidents, but even that will be at the cost of slowing the game down. It's just a bad idea, plain and simple. Its proponents seem to believe it can somehow eliminate bad decisions, but it can't, it just shifts the subjectivity elsewhere. The aim is good, but unachievable.

    N.B. The above is my subjective opinion on the matter, others will disagree - which illustrates the point.
