Just a tad harsh on Ingram on one showing. Though did wonder if Smithies might have saved the second or at least got a hand to it.
I agree on all that: haven't seen such a bunch of whingers in a long time and Baptiste was the pick of a very average bunch.
This was a really irritating match. Preston are a reasonable side, albeit not play off quality, but with a bad attitude, niggling and moaning ALL the time. This was made worse by the referee. I had quite forgotten how bad a referee can be. This one was weak, overly fussy, inconsistent and made some baffling decisions, or non-decisions in the case of the GBH on Eze. Terrible: he got everyone, even the sleepy crowd, worked up. We were terrible. Too much hoofball in the direction of Smith, even after he'd been subbed, and I've now seen enough head tennis to last me for the whole of 2018. I've seen Ingram play a few times now and he just doesn't fill me with confidence, this feeling being strengthened by some poor distribution and a couple of worrying mistakes. Baptiste was my MOTM but he didn't have a lot of competition. With his good goals to minutes ratio, I've always thought Sylla could prove to be a decent centre forward but he didn't show up today. He wasn't alone: there was no sign of the high energy press that has served us so well when we do it, although it rarely lasts more than 15 minutes. We started reasonably brightly but that didn't last and I can't recall us having an attempt on goal in an awful second half. Please can we get rid of Cousins? He's had his chances, more recently in his proper position in central midfield, and we can spend his wages so much more productively. He doesn't even add a bit of standby bulk to the squad (in the same way as Baptiste does). The game just passes him by and he makes no impression on it. I could go on but I think you get the message....
Sylla seems like a decent bloke and I like him but he has almost zero ball control and frequently looks like a kind of mishmash of gangly arms and legs. I often feel when he scores it’s more by some kind of luck than any great skill or ability. He also needs to invest £5 into a set of longer studs, me might then find he doesn’t slip over quite as frequently. Ingram was poor yesterday, I’m surprised that the referee didn’t send him off in the first half when he decided to change role from goalie to midfielder and fouled their player. Nonetheless, it’s harsh to write him off on the basis of the (I think) only start he’s had this season. He’s looked a pretty good goalie to me in the past.
After a long trip back up the M1 and a reflection on the game I can definately say I won't be in any hurry to do it again. Like my son said in the car, did we string 3 passes together? I recall one attack down the right when Eze put Smyth in to cross and that's it. It does amaze me when we applaud the most basic of things like a back pass or a full back challenging as if it was world class or something. To me it was a typical end of season performance. No energy, no enthusiasm and no football. Did Preston try stop us playing? I think we managed that by ourselves.
I'm losing count of the number of times he says after a match how he got it wrong, does he never learn anything? A good manager knows his players capabilities, it seems Ollie still doesn't after 43 matches...
Do you think this Ingram's goodbye....he hasn't really looked the part in his cup outings either... Can see Lumley being the future not Ingrams Sent from my STF-L09 using Tapatalk
You can see why and also why they struggle at home. Bunch of ****s. I hope our players learned from it.
What's the definition of insanity? Though he can do know wrong in some people's eyes. This is the main reason why I've not bothered to not bothered to make the 300 mile round trip this season. You don't know what team is going to turn up on the day, and I've sat my way through a fair amount of ****e football already. In my opinion, we've stayed up in spite of Ollie, not because of. No doubt the loyal followers will be along saying we are building, who else would come here etc. I cannot believe that with proper scouting and due diligence that we cannot find a better replacement in the lower leagues. Still, we've stayed up, so nothing else matters, eh?
Read into this what you will.(Apologies re The Fail) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-Lumley-confident-stopper-start-QPR-term.html
As I have said all along they are a difficult side PNE and have a method going to get results especially away from home They have a good core imo and easily have earns the right to be considered a strong championship side now That’s where we should be thinking of getting to ... still too many fans thinking we have a right to be amongst the top teams in this division ... that is false this division eats teams up who think that ... look how many giants we have now in this league Until you build this core or get a magic formula then it’s already all about survival imo and hoping a lot of weak teams come up Thinking QPR can return to the premiership at the moment is plain stupid because the club is so badly run
It would make sense to cash in on Smithies whilst we can, Lumley has been getting rave reviews at Blackpool and should now be ready for the step up to the 1st team. Ingram's distribution has been iffy and he won't inspire confidence, may well be time to move him on...
I hope you mean has been so badly run? Surely the evidence is that huge effort is being made to run the club properly?
At 24 surely he wants to go if he’s not first choice next season, which surely he isn’t. Only hearing good things about Lumley.
Well, my expectations were most definitely NOT for us to play like a "strong Championship side" and neither did I expect us to "return to the premiership" (sic). Nevertheless, having undertaken a 6 hour round trip to the match, what I did not expect was a game that was a mixture of hoof ball and head tennis, leavened with most of our players playing at 90% for 90% of the time. Playing slo-mo Smith as a starter invites us to play hoof ball and we just can't resist it. It was a true end of season game, nothing to win/lose for us, with very few players putting themselves out. Personally, I would like us to finish the season strongly, gaining the maximum points that we can, as a launch pad for further improvement in 2018/19. I travelled a long way and spent a chunk of my hard-earned wedge to watch THAT? I have a right to expect better. I agree with you that we have some decent players. I do expect them to bring the ball down under control occasionally and to be able to string a few passes together. And then, without the ball, the high energy pressing game has worked well for us in the short periods we have employed it recently. Where was it yesterday? No QPR player could be a***d to do it. Wrong tactics and wrong players meant that this was always likely to happen. I wish Ollie would send me his team selection and tactics prior to me setting off and then I could decide whether to turn up. I did so yesterday but the team didn't.
I share your sentiments. Mine was a 10 1/2 hour round trip. That's my mistake though and won't be repeating it any time soon. I can watch better football locally at semi pro level and that is no joke. Yesterday's performance from both teams was piss poor. For supposed athletes at the peak of fitness, I struggle to understand how anyone even left the pitch slightly out of breath.
What is so maddening is that we can put in the sort of performance we did at Villa yet revert to the dross we got yesterday. The tinkering is bound to show up with inconsistency and a major reason we take a step forward and two backwards throughout the season. Good managers are ones who have a good structure to the team and bring consistency to the team which then translates to regular good performances. Look at what Neil Harris has done at Millwall on a shoestring budget, that is good management...
