Exactly right about that. I doubt at Wolves, the coach decides who comes in (might have a say as the odd Porto player has followed) but Mendes calls the shots, fortunately for them he represents real talent and the owners have the funds to pay all but premier league wages. You buy quality, it doesn't matter a **** what the know about 'English' football.
good post spot on but it also helps when you buy round pegs to fit the round holes and square pegs to fit the square holes which would suggest their coach did have a say on who came in or certainly expressing which shape pegs to buy
You're right, even if you can't buy the very best, putting together a well balanced team can produce good results.
Anyone thought that both managers may be shyte and the players may be much better than we’ve seen? Yeah I know but who would think that Phillips, O’Kane and Anita would turn from being matchwinners into useless players not good enough to be in the Development squad. What happened? Believing this makes more sense than the pony we’ve had as managers,
TC=1.52 Points per game PH=0.83 Points per game same squad with them averages over 42 games TC would have you on 64 points PH has got you relegated almost certain with 35
Wow surprised to see simon was one of our most successful managers, only surpassed by the great Don,interesting stats, thanks for posting Brendan.
Thanks for confirming that Peter Reid was as bad as Hockaday. The demise started there in my opinion.
Oh gosh, yes, there’s been loads. 06/07 - 24th in the Championship. 07/08 - 5th in League 1 ffs, 08/09 losing to the mighty Donny at Wembley, 10/11 - 7th in the Championship with that team, 11/12 - Championship 14th, 12/13 - Championship 13th, 13/14 - Championship 15th, 14/15 - Championship 15th, 15/16 - Championship 13th. So, apart from one promotion and one nearly year under Monk, they’ve all been this “depressing” for the last dozen years. Actually, following LUFC has never depressed me, it’s difficult sometimes but it’s unique and I love it, what is depressing on the other hand........
I'm sorry but that is one measure in the extreme. It makes no context of the state of the club when each managed or division they were playing in. With exception of the great Don, far and away the best, can you honestly tell me that Simon Grayson was more successful than Howard Wilkinson who got us promoted and then won the 1st division??? Purleease
Exactly...just cannot understand why people get so upset just because we lost a few matches for the last decade or so. Fortunately the 30,000 at every home game appear to think differently to some on here.
I think some of the players are quite good. Some are terrible. I also think the squad as a whole is awful. It’s not that every player Orta has brought in is rubbish. The problems are 1. Too many of them have not performed and 2. If the coach does not have the final say you end up with the wrong type of players for what that coach wants to do on the pitch. That’s why no really good coach will accept this set up. Having a great scouting setup helps, for sure, but Orta seems to have power without responsibility
It’s also true that an average coach will get a team promoted if the owner spends enough. Wolves and Fulham have squads with a market value way higher than the average for this league. We havnt.
