sure once he recovers from his thigh injury, and if he maintains his form once he has recovered.

half a season in the prem doesnt guarantee anything!

We're rebuilding; fans understand that and we have Kenny instead of Roy, which would be like complaining the sun's too bright when you've just been given your sight back. Kenny has no pressure to get top 4, unlike some managers. Given the service that had finally returned for Torres, what do you reckon the chances are we can score a few with a fella happy to be at the club?

    Welcome, tiger.

The price surprised many, though some managers have privately acknowledged it's actually a good buy, for a five year deal which means less in wages (£15m saved between Torres and Carroll) in a market short of good young strikers who can cut it in the PL and count for the homegrown rule. He's also got a slightly better goal ratio at 22 than Torres had at that age.

We nearly had Anelka and only £40m for Torres so that extra £10m was like a freebie for taking Carrolll instead of Anelka. Sweet. We'll get that back in buckets from Carroll. With Anelka we'd have got very little. Both could deliver immediately, but only Carroll will still be delivering in a year or two.

Tomkins has a great piece on what AC's worth, and when placed in the context of his Current Transfer Purchase Price Index, adjusted to allow for factors like inflation, current transfer record, etc he's cheaper than some, like Wright-Phillips to Chelsea (£38.3m), Veron to Utd (£36.8m) or Shearer to Newcastle (£39m).

<doh> Only Liverpool fans could convince themselves that Carroll's a good buy.

He can't dribble, pass, shoot, slow as a tortoise, 0% touch and control, and possesses little, to no intelligence. He might be strong and big. But so is Ameobi. <laugh> Well done for telling yourselves otherwise though.

He's so rubbish he scored the goal that beat your lot......

And will you just tell the truth that you're only on here because he joined Liverpool and that you have a massive chip on your shoulder about the club. Don't worry you're not the only one, and I'm sure some Liverpool fans hound your board too but at the end of the day you're all united in being absolute sausage munchers...... probably on par with Gary Neville in my eyes.

you never can tell how it will go

when you are an old timer like me you learn patience - there are quite a few possibilities for Carroll ranging from banging in 30+ a season and becoming a legend to abject failure and no one can tell where it end up. Dalglish will know what to do. Funny LFC already look much better since Uncle Roy left. If Carroll dont work out we at West Ham would gladly give him a home - on a free though

What a rebuttal. Seriously, put a dent in my argument. <doh> He scored a scruffy header against us, for ****s sake. <laugh> I already said, he's big and strong (him being aerially dominant included). Anything else?

I have nothing personal against Liverpool. They are some random club languishing in mid-table. An irrelevancy tbh. I always used to frown upon Carroll, when at Newcastle. I just found it absolutely hilarious you idiots decided to replace Torres with him. How sad. <laugh>

Like only Blackburn fans could convince themselves Shearer was a good buy? Carroll's stats at Newcastle were better than Shearer's at Southampton. That's the Daliglish Effect for you.

Keep telling yourself our resurgence is not going to happen, as the evidence piles up in front of you it already is.

<doh> Football intelligence; creativity, decision making, anticipation, etc. Don't expect a simpleton like you to understand that though.

Just that your football knowledge is obviously superior to ours....

Or is that just you being so arrogant that you spout some football terms (which are championship manager attributes, hahaha, not surprising!) and then say, just for the sake of it, that WE'RE the stupid ones. Yeah, good luck with that....

I won't even start with the fact that you're just on this board to be annoying because I think that's blatantly obvious already. Can't wait for your, no doubt numerous, replies.
