No reason for it not to work. Mitro is a goal scorer and they aren’t common. Use him properly and he will score goals.
We will get some serious money for this guy in the summer. His record in the league below is nothing short of stellar. He has turned Fulham from a good but slightly inconsistent play off hopeful into serious automatic promotion contenders. Probably too much ground to make up but they are giving it a go. When you add in his international record and a potential good World Cup, you are looking at a very valuable asset. He’s only 23. I can’t see Rafa keeping him or him wanting to play under Rafa, too much water under the bridge now and Rafa just doesn’t appear to rate him. However if Chris Wood is worth 15m then you’d pay a lot more for Mitro.
Granted Rafa's opinion is the one that counts and it differs from mine but I want him to give Mitro and Armstrong a go next season. On that basis, genuinely, I don't known who I'd want us to go after in the summer. Maybe a 1st choice striker (mitro given a proper run alongside or as an alternative option and not just 5 minutes here and there) Armstrong can be 3rd choice and given a proper go. Team as a whole perhaps maybe the right hand side wants addressing. Could be a false dawn but I'm happy with current first team ... Save the strikers but, as stated, I think we already own 2 for that job! Obviously any player is replaceable if they are upgraded
There would be something nice about Armstrong and Mitrovic being given a go. Two lads who the fans love, who would be brilliant for each other. One through the academy. One arriving here at 20. To be fair Rafa has never shown any sign he has given up on Arma.
Say we stay up, as looks likely. Then we get a normal PL transfer budget. We keep hold of the core of the team. The younger/less consistent players have more experience. We upgrade on a few positions. Wouldn't Rafa then look to give Mitrovic, and Arma, another chance? The tactics will be slightly different, we'll be looking for a bit more time spent winning games than holding shape. Gayle's got to go, Joselu was a cheap stop gap, Slimani on loan. Sell Mitrovic and you're trying to buy four strikers when we've spent 10 years unable to find even one good 'un? Sometimes these younger lads just need managing right, and a little break - Kane was on loan four times before he made a breakthrough at Spurs, and even when out on loan had a poor record. Arma > Gayle Mitro > Joselu
Mitrovic proving what most of us knew already. There was always a talented footballer/ goalscorer there. He seems to have matured and is playing in a side that complements his style.
This was his best performance in a Fulham shirt. He showed us that there is much more to his game than scoring, his willingness to help in defensive duties, and his hold up play last night were excellent. Whether we are able to buy the lad were we to get promoted must be a doubt. David Moyes was at the game last night - as he was for the Serbia v Nigeria game, and word is that he is likely to make an offer during the close season. Meanwhile ,for those who have not seenit here is last nights goal.
Crikey - not sure that shot's beating a PL 'keeper, I have to say! We're in the lap of the Gods with this one. aka Rafa decides.
I agree. And Gayle isn’t good enough for the prem either, same with Joselu. We need shot of both IMHO. Jorgensen and a Slimani type plus Perez and Arma as back up will do for me and work to our system better.
A big strong lad who likes to put himself about and be a handful? Wonder where we could find one of those for next to nothing as we'll have to spend 15-20m on Jorgensen...
He would also need to have a good goals to minute record in the PL and best, if possible, that he's in his early 20's. Now, where should we look...
Maybe we could look at some of the clubs challenging for promotion in the Championship. They might have a few canny players on loan from PL clubs that we could swoop in and pinch before they sign them up permanently?
What a good idea. Fulham seem to be on a good run at the moment maybe that's one Club we could look at.
