QPR boss is ready to gamble at Wigan By Paul Warburton Aug 25 2011 Add a comment Recommend inShare Share QPR boss Neil Warnock is ready to throw new players in at the deep end against Wigan – even if they have yet to meet their team-mates. The manager reckons that far from being a reckless gamble, any new face signed sealed and delivered when the team bus leaves for the North-West will get a warm-up game before the two-week break. Warnock believes the season ‘starts’ against Newcastle on September 12, and is ready to face the consequences of a bad result at the DW Stadium. He added: “New players will get included in the squad so they get a game under their belt regardless of the score. “Our season really starts against Newcastle, but that said, we did really well at Everton last Saturday when we had essentially the team from the Championship last year – bar one – Danny Gabbidon. “We played well for each other – and grafted to get the win.” However, a threadbare back four is likely to see Gabbidon (pic) moved to left-back, with Matt Connolly shifting to the right defensive slot, and Danny ****tu partnering Fitz Hall in the centre. Injuries to Bradley Orr, Keiron Dyer, and a suspension for Clint Hill, has forced Warnock to reshuffle his pack – while noting Monday is the earliest he can recall defender Peter Ramage from his loan spell at Crystal Palace. Lawro Predicts - Latics v QPR Gadgets powered by Google Former Liverpool defender and current Match of the Day pundit Mark 'Lawro' Lawrenson has once again done his weekly round of predictions for the BBC, he is predicting that this Saturday's Premier League clash between Wigan Athletic and Queens Park Rangers at the DW Stadium will end in a home win for the Latics, let's see what his reasons are: Wigan v QPR We saw what Wigan are capable of in the 20-minute spell they had at Swansea last week where they hit the bar and post, and missed a penalty. QPR had a great result at Everton, although I think they caught them at a good time. Rangers had a financial boost too with their takeover going through but, although their manager Neil Warnock now has money to spend, I think his problem will be getting players to join them. Rangers are in talks with Joey Barton, who would be a great signing. But has he been tweeting about it because he wants to go there, or to let other clubs know what is going on? I'm not sure. As for Saturday, I think it will be close. Both these teams will be in the bottom third of the table come May, but I think Wigan will edge it on the day. Prediction: 2-1 Frightening having Lawro plump for us! I think we will just edge it also, 1-0 Latics win for me To see all Lawros weekend predictions visit www.bbc.co.uk/lawros-punts Read more: http://www.wigan.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=252696#ixzz1W78iYoIp

Team News Wigan - Gohouri and Alvarez out through injury whilst Victor Moses is 50-50, Hugo Rodallega could also start his first game of the season after the Copa America. QPR - Hulse, Mackie, Dyer all still out aswell as Clint Hill although he is missing the game through suspension, tests will be run on Bradley Orr. Frontmen DJ Campbell and Jay Bothroyd are expected to be back after illness. Likely Line Up's Wigan (4-1-4-1) Al-Habsi Boyce Caldwell ? Figueroa Diame Watson Gomez McCarthy Moses Di Santo QPR (4-2-3-1) Kenny Orr Hall Gabbidon Connolly Derry Faurlin Campbell Taarabt Smith Bothroyd Sorry if Wigan line up is not correct and also I don't know if Barton is available for this match?
Honestly, i think QPR are stronger (with Barton now in the team(?)) than Norwich and Swans*** so i think that we have a Genuine chance of beating this, rather average, Wigan team, even away, buoyed by the win at Everton. Good Luck to all the players! (thanks Northolt)
Thanks I try but honestly, we should be able to beat a team that couldnt beat teams we out performed last season
Hmmm.....In Colin we Trust But..... Odd of him to say that I thought. We need to stop wigan getting points on the board as it could be them or us at the end of the season. If we had SWP which would be nice, what will our new formation be 2-7-1 or 2-6-2 ?
Can you really not let it go? We've got a massive game tomorrow and a far more exciting season to look forward to than ever seemed possible.
QPR soap opera heads for Wigan – match preview http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/footba...pr_soap_opera_heads_for_wigan_–_match_preview
I agree it's a massive game, but from what he says Neil doesn't. Just wish he would keep these kind of comments to himself, it's disrespectful to the players who got him back to the Prem (can't win with you lot, despite Everton) and demotivating. If he really believes today's match doesn't matter fine, hope his bosses and the fans who are making the trip agree, but no need to voice every thought he has to the press.
