Well if you are going to give pens for that then you may as well make it a non contact sport and get rid of defenders entirely. If you give pens for "accidental" contact between a defender and attacker, especially if the ball is long gone then there will be about 10 pens a game. It is not like the shirt holding thing where "eventually players will learn" is the line used, this is completely unavoidable and will make the whole game a joke.

In my interpretation of the rules of how it's used, VAR shouldn't be giving penalties like this in the first place. They specifically say clear and obvious error.

Well you're guess is as good as mine. I think you could argue that he clearly trod on him therefore, in slow motion and out of context it had to be a clear error? I wouldn't criticise the ref either way anyway. My main point is that all these effects were either predicted or should have been, and I don't think you get to call it a trial any more as it's being used in the actual World Cup.

I definitely would not recommend having more than one defender attempt a tackle/block any more. Shirt holding and corner blocking is another great example of things that are tolerated and will probably turn into spurious penalties now.

Most goals in a crowded penalty area will involve some infringement....notably from corners with a lot of jostling for room. A small hold that scarcely does anything will look like a grip in slo-mo and on a still.

I am considering it, though the cost is pretty ridiculous. Saw an article where they had a mathematician work out how much it would cost to fill the book odds wise and it was over £700. I've got the app on my phone where you get packs for free and just fill it in on there so that might be it for me this time round.

That's if you only buy packs and don't swap any I would imagine. For me the most fun part was the negotiations with friends in the school playground. I imagine if you get a group of you to do it and do lots of swaps the cost comes down dramatically.

The app side takes away the fun of actually filling in the book surely?

I worried about this post when I started reading, imagining you trying to get access to a primary school playground and claiming it was because you were trying to swap two John Stones for a Vladamir Gabulov. Glad you clarified that.

The Championship is blessed with some very good footballing teams at the moment. With Cardiff keeping Fulham and Villa at arms length, those two teams will soon have to assess when is the time to prepare for the play-offs. What did we go up with, 88? And West Ham finished on 87. I would be astonished if either Villa or Fulham get to 87 despite being in excellent form. Cardiff in reality, need another 4 wins, probably less, unless Fulham and Villa get a máximum from their remaining games.

Not sure where to put this, but best wishes to Ray Wilkins who is fighting for his life after a cardiac arrest tonight.

My 7 and 9 year old discovered that they could buy topps premier league card packs at the local dairy. We went in there on Saturday and there were two other kids from school, while we were buying our stuff three more came in. The fella at the dairy can’t believe it, no cards sold for weeks and now he can’t get enough of them. I love it. I keep buying packs to ‘trade’ with them. Think I’ve got bourenemouth midfielders and some Huddersfield players left now. My youngest’s pride and joy is boufal, won’t trade him for anything.

A mate of mine at school was a Chelsea fan and a very good artist, he painted a picture of Ray playing at Stamford Bridge in circa '76 I think. Ray was just 18 and was the Chelsea Captain and my mate said he was going to be greater than Pele!

He never quite reached those heights, but i've always liked him when i've heard him talk, seems like a very decent chap...keep fighting and get well soon Butch.

Zlatan just scored a ridiculous 40 yard volley on his LA Galaxy debut.
