From the Indy today: Detectives have been granted more money to continue the search for Madeleine McCann, nearing 11 years since her disappearance while on holiday with her family in Portugal. So far more than £11m has been spent on the UK’s investigation, named Operation Grange. Government funding has been agreed every six months, with £154,000 being granted from October last year until the end of March. A Home Office spokesman said: “The government remains committed to the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. “We have briefed the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) that its application for Special Grant funding for Operation Grange will be granted.” Family spokesperson Clarence Mitchell said that Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann were “incredibly grateful” for the additional money. He said: “They are very encouraged that the Met Police still believe there is work left to be done and they are incredibly grateful to the Home Office for providing an extra budget for the investigation.”
Whilst i cannot particularly argue against the continued search for this poor child, i also strongly suspect that if the parents had been a couple of dole bludgers from Byker that the initial reaction to the disappearance and subsequent ongoing reaction would be very, very different.
Might have saved and might even yet save considerable money if the McCann’s answered the questions they have previously been asked. Sorry for the child but absolutely no sympathy for the McCann’s. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...adeleine-disappearance-portugal-a7710111.html
From the few snippets i have seen i have found them both to be pretty cold.............. especially him. There is clearly something not right there and they are clearly not telling the whole truth. I just pray that they are 'found out' one day and justice is served.
It's hard to believe there are any credible leads left to investigate but maybe there are. I assume the Portuguese Police have long since brought an end to their proceedings? There has to come a point when the McCanns say fair enough there is no realistic chance of finding her or the killer. If it was your child, though, would you give up until there was evidence she was dead? You can't blame them. I don't rule out that they could have had something to do with it (other than stupidly and irresponsibly leaving their kids unattended in the apartment) but I think it's improbable to be honest. Sitting in our armchairs it's easy to say he or she looks shifty or whatever but we don't have anything to back it up and they aren't seriously being considered suspects by the Police as far as I know who surely know more than us. The thing that makes me think they that they weren't involved is if they had had a hand in it then surely they would have let the investigation die out by now? It would be easy to say "time to let go" but they still insist on an investigation.
Time to shut this **** down. I do wonder if they would continue this charade if they are guilty but you never know. My missus is adamant they did it.
Call me narrow minded, but somehow I don’t believe the met would keep on extendinding the investigation ha this happened in blackpool. (I mean apart from the fact that it’s lancashire... but you get the point).
Whichever view you take, they caused Maddies death as they left their kids unattended. If it were in this country they would be charged for that alone. Horrible parents who put booze and food ahead of child safety. I find it really odd that they refused to answer quite a few questions...
This all day. If it were mine, I might never stop. But would I expect the Government or Met Police to help? Never in a million years. If help were offered, I'd take it, but these McCann's keep rocking up asking for a handout. End of the day, whether they did it or not, they are culpable and at best partly responsible. That question refusal thing is insane. Some are such inane questions, it was clearly deflection for whatever reason. "Did you call Sky News" for example. Yes or no. Unless you're hiding something - and not just your own stupidity and negligence - you answer. It's your child, you do anything. You'd admit you like gay porn if it helped. You'd be utterly and completely honest, if your intention was to help the law.
Had no time for the McCanns at the time she went missing, still have no time for them now,for a couple who have lost a child they have never come across as sorrowful or upset, seemed more like crocodile tears to me and I still blame them for what happened to that poor child
Money talks...or in this case it didn't. IIRC, a large reward was put up for information leading to the arrest of those involved in the 'abduction'. The fact that this £1million reward wasn't claimed could suggest that no one had info other than the mccanns. Come on, they did it. Right?
It was a protest wasn't it? At being treated as a suspect when they felt the Portuguese police should have been searching for their daughter. It's left them open to sniping from people on the outside unfortunately.
That’s what the McCann’s say. But IMO anyone in their position then would be angry at being considered suspects but would understand that the Police have to investigate everyone and would have answered the questions. Even if you were angry at the time of being suspected would you not at least by now have answered the questions if it meant the Police could then dismiss you as a suspect and move on with the enquiry? As Chippy said, and I can’t believe I’m agreeing with him, the McCann’s were culpable at least in the negligent way that they looked after the kids. Nowadays I’m sure they would in this country be subject to criminal charges even if nothing had happened to any of the children. The questions though do point the finger of suspicion at the McCann’s as the key ones would be based on information the Police already had. Why contact Sky? Why medicate the children? Why not shout for help as opposed to going back to the Tapas Bar? Why leave the twins to go and tell others when Madeline has just in the McCann’s view been abducted?
They aren't suspects in the eyes of either the British or Portuguese police though and I'd be amazed if they don't have most of this info already. I don't think there is evidence of the McCanns medicating their kids? I think why they contacted Sky (if they did) was pretty obvious - media attention to increase the public awareness of the disappearance. How that could in any way be used as evidence of guilt that they killed their own child? When did they kill her? And why? When and where did they dispose of the body and how did nobody see that? I've already said they are partly culpable in leaving their kids alone but this armchair jury ****e people come out with based on conjecture is wrong. Anyway, the original point is about continued funding and while my initial reaction was not dissimilar to most other people who have commented here, I have to say that if there are leads then they should keep investigating. It's a child's life at stake at the end of the day. It's only money and not a great deal - £150k will probably constitute the pay and overheads for 2 detectives max.
