They won't have experienced anything like us at Anfield, we should just do a Porto and stick 5 on them and chill in the second leg.

Liverpool have always saved their best performances for Europe in the modern era anyways. I am sure you can do this. I'd venture to say that the side you have now is probably better than the 2005 vintage (barring maybe Gerrard) and we all know how that went.

Liverpool v Man City is probably the most exciting tie of the round.

Juventus v Real Madrid is the "big names" tie

    Xabi Alonso...?

Carragher is better than Lovren, Matip & Klavan. VVD would be compared to Hyypia.

I'd argue that Steve Finnan was a better FB than anything we currently have too

Nah that's the kind of attitude that gets you knocked out, I'd like us to beat city, then Bayern and then Barca in the final with us ruining little Phil's big dream.

The Europeans (continental ones) are apparently very happy with these draws as all their top clubs and favourites have been kept apart. The semi finalists have already been marked as Barcelona, Bayern, Madrid and....?

The other outcome of the events of this week is that English football went from potentially having 5 QFinalists (had our other teams gone through) and potentially up to 3 or 4 semi finalists to a single confirmed semi finalist from the premiership.

Every one is talking about the Liverpool City tie as the tie of the round. Quite rightly. The only one that provides some degree of uncertainty.

To be honest I would have preferred any of Sevilla Roma Juventus to City. But City won’t be too keen on us too. We have nothing to lose as we are not going to be favourites.

TBh it can go wither way every easily.

    Which is fine.

there's no real predicting cos as we saw with real and psg you can turn up on the first leg with one or two players out on either side or a tired player or whatever and it can just throw the whole thing

everything has to be right to push on.

    just enjoy it imo

having the first leg at home is no harm. it gives us an assure rip snorter of a tie at anfield and we can just do our best.

If we can lead after that we can see what we do.

This is about how Klopp is going to manage his resources to compete in both the CL and the premiership for top 4. My feeling is that he should focus all his attention on the CL. This opportunity won’t present itself for a while so let’s go for it 100%. The premiership top 4 will take care of itself.

    i'll raise you an Alonso
actually the 2005 MF was better than this teams but this teams forward line is miles better.
I also think people forget how injury ravaged we were throughout the 2005 campaign

My feeling right now is what is cheslea going to do?

Klopp's made this mistake two seasons ago, lost the the Europa final and ended up out of europe the following year

    Out fixtures now

    17th March Watford H
Sat 31st march Crystal Palace A
Wed 4th April Manchester City H
    Sun 8th April Everton A
Tue 10th April Manchester City A
    Sat 14th April Bournemouth H
Sun 22nd April West Brom A
Sat 28th April Stoke City H
    Sat 5th May Chelsea A
    Sun 13th May Brighton H

    So right now:

NEED to focus on league and win those next two games. remember there are MEANINGLESS friendlies in march we just do not need.

Then derby game is a disaster between two intense matches.

Then we have 4 days before bournmouth at home.

For me we have to not lose focus on palace. To have internationals and then have to do palace game with one eye on city is wher eLFC players and attidue come into sharp focus. We MUST win that palace game.

the reason why we MUST win is by the time Chelaea play again in the league we will potentially have 6 more points and so be TEN points clear having played two more games and then they play Spurs... must win for them

My ideal is we put this ****ing league to bed before we play city. 10 points clear... they have then all the work to do.

They have a bunch of ****e to play all the way from that spurs game until they play us. If we let them get close we will **** this up

    Win next 2.

    i think they''ll fold then.

    Trust
me the prem will not take care of itself. We will end up 5th if we take that attitude as it relies on others ****ing up.

You think we'll still make top 4 even if we take our eye off the ball?
We have to put everything we have into both, at least until the top 4 is mathematically assured. We can't afford a repeat of the Europey run.
We do our best, we get what we deserve.

TBH that side has prob ended up under rated.

    dudek was a middling keeper
Finnan was a guy rafa kept trying to replace but he kept going back and playing him (better RB that either options today)
Risse should have been left full but rafa playing him left midfield (imo better than orbertson)
Hyppia as you said compared to VVD but top top player
Carragher yes better than anythign now
Hamann was past it. better than henderson as no 6 by a mile
Alonso and gerrard v can/ox/windy... no contest there
Right wing. garcia. Salah is obviously better
Left win/ forwward Kewell faked injury when we were down and actually aided us. Mane is 1000% better
Baros v firmino.. again today better

So the back 5 and the midfield from 2005 with the front 3 of today.

somehow we won a CL final with djimi traore and Harry kewell starting... go figure.

All I want is a mental Anfield I'd take another 4-3 by the way. The beauty is City will never park the bus. They will hog the ball but will never park the bus. This practically means we will have chances to score in both games.

Wijnaldum,Can and Milner will do for the home game.

tbh the lad needs two holding behind him cos he just doesn't track and ball watches.

either henderson can ox or as you said

The only disadvantage is that the first leg is Atfield. If we win this one we can hope to get a draw at Manchester.

They have requested Everton game to be moved to 12:30 on Saturday 7th April, depends on the FA.
