This is bad news for us really. He was never going to get them many points this season but I'd say they have better players than us so a good manager could pull them away with a couple of wins. Our future is in our hands though so guess we can ignore it for now. Pardew will be free soon, head back to the south coast and make us happy? Sort out two of the relegated teams for us?

About when we brought Benitez in 2 years ago - if they bring in Silva immediately there's time. Just put out a kids team for the FA Cup match on Sunday, then the next league game for Soton isn't until the 31st.....8 games to go and 1 place above the drop zone, easily scope for a new manager boost to save them now. Makes sense as they were only going down until Pellegrino and looked horrendous on Saturday, change is needed for any change of them staying up.
I actually did an article as part of my thesis about how Redknapp has ruined every club he managed bar Tottenham. And really that's cos they had Levy But, you know, you just can't say that. 'Arry is a good manager, not a wheeler dealer and he can't read. (Just waiting for the lawyers of all tabloid newspapers to tell me if this is an acceptable representation)
I'm just glad its taken them this long to do it. Its very late in the day but of all the sides in the bottom half I feel they have the most quality. If someone comes in and keeps it simple they might be ok. Forster Soares Bertrand Hoedt Stephens Romeu Lemina Ward Prowse Redmond Tadic Gabbiadini McCarthy, Yoshida, Holberg, Davis, Boufal, Austin, Carillo They'd still have Long too. I'm not sure who they have fit though. To me that looks a canny side. Certainly they shouldn't be where they are. I reckon every one of those would be after a PL move and would get one, or at the very least a top division abroad. It would be an absolute free for all. Lucky for them I think West Ham are in free fall, Stoke look gash, and West Brom are gone. Palace also looked awful. They looked surefire for relegation on Saturday so had nothing to lose. I don't want to be over critical of the manager as I don't know the ins and outs of their club, but tactically on Saturday they looked clueless. It was so easy for us. Against Newcastle the one thing you must do is press Shelvey. If you don't he goes from being a run of the mill midfielder who looks a bit clumsy, to looking a class act who can run a game. They just sat passing sideways never threatening and we just picked them off with ease.
Their team's better on paper than Palace's, and Palace have been on a terrible run recently (1 point from the last 5 games), if they get Silva in immediately, they've surely got a decent chance, there's plenty of other teams down there that they could pip. West Brom good as gone, Stoke are highly likely to go down with a duffer like Lambert. BUT apart from that there's plenty of candidates - Palace on a terrible run, Huddersfield not really looking good enough for the Prem, West Ham with a toxic home atmosphere etc.
