Now we have an armed pitch invasion

    World in #meltdown

Greece's top-flight football championship was suspended indefinitely today, a minister said, hours after the owner of the PAOK team came onto the pitch with a gun strapped to his belt.

"We have decided to suspend the championship," deputy minister for sport Yiorgos Vassiliadis said after an emergency meeting with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

"It will not start again without a new framework agreed by all," Vassiliadis said, adding that the government was in close contact with European football body, UEFA.

Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of PAOK owner, Greek-Russian businessman Ivan Savvidis, after he invaded the pitch to confront the referee to protest at a disallowed goal in a match against AEK Athens.

PAOK and AEK are in a neck-and-neck race for the league title.

The pitch invasions at the freebie football stadium over the weekend highlight the ridiculous deal Boris Johnson gave to West Ham, they are not responsible for policing or stewarding at the freebie, therefore can say the 'fans' encroachment was not their fault.
Whether the FA/Premier League will punish them remains to be seen but the current Mayor of London should look to amend the contract West Ham got when they moved into their new home.

why would the porn barons agree to worse terms ?
The problem was obvious the moment the stadium wasn't designed to be easily set up for football as there is no other use for a stadium that large in UK.

It's not just about the stadium design though, if there aren't enough police and stewards on duty there on matchdays it leaves the door open for not just demonstrators invading the pitch but also crowd segregation between home and away fans, worse still terrorism.
There's an emergency meeting in progress between the parties involved.

"Newham Council has also issued a statement over events at the London Stadium to "utterly condemn the actions of the small minority of troublemakers responsible".

The council is the certifying authority for the stadium and along with the Sports Ground Safety Authority are now "urgently reviewing the safety management plans and procedures and staffing of the stadium."
"More from Newham Council, in a statement they say:

"The evidence gathered and the revised safety management plans will be discussed at an emergency Stadium Safety Advisory Group (SAG) which includes the Metropolitan police, E20 and West Ham United FC.

"The discussion at the SAG will assist the council before any decision is made regarding future sporting and other events."

I think E20 are the ones responsible for stewarding and policing at the stadium, Johnson made it so easy for West Ham not to just get the stadium for basically **** all but also a 'get out of jail for free card' when something like this happens.
Sadiq Khan said a couple of weeks ago his legal team are looking at the West Ham deal with a view to ripping it up and renegotiating the the whole deal, obviously the porn brothers will fight it every step of the way, but the deal stunk of corruption and mismanagement of a nationally owned sports stadium from minute one.

Sadiq Khan can say what he wants but what matters is te legal advice on what , if any , grounds they have for insisting on a new contract.
The design fault is relevant as that has led to the skewed contract because LCC didn't want to be left with a (total) white elephant yet still had to find a tenant / owner who would agree to the (pointless) Athletics legacy.
The stadium should have been designed to easily transfer & the sale / tenancy offerred to prospective tenants once design agreed. The Athletics legacy more easily / cheaply fulfilled then by giving Crystal Palace Athletics stadium £20-£40m to increase capacity plus update the facilities for the athletes.
Basically it was a **** up for "political" reasons to pretend the stadium gave an athletics legacy.
However that said from what has been released into the public domain the WHam LDC agreement does seem ridiculously skewed to WHam. All these troubles don't help sell the naming rights for which a large chunk goes to the LDC.

    Thats my take anyway.

IMo some day some where corruption will be proved on this. theres a back hander somewhere to enable this deal. its simply too good given how spurs and even leyton orient were demanding a go at this place.

ther eis nothing there to say west ham were only option and they rode boris. if anything i just smell boris has something squirreled away after this for a nice retirement.

Leyton Orient was never a viable prospect & didn't Spurs want to knock down the stadium & build a new one with no Athletics capability.

The Os could potentially have ground-shared, but the
claim was that it would have affected a potential buyer
    of the Spanners.

"& didn't Spurs want to knock down the stadium & build a new one with no Athletics capability."

The Spurs bid proposed redeveloping Crystal Palace
(a south east homeland of UK athletics/sport) into a
modern + increased spectator capacity facility, that
would not be a money pit for the few times it would
be used each year for athletics events.

Ironically, the Crystal Palace athletics stadium is
now in real danger of being shut down by UK
Athletics (with all the consequences entailed) .
No doubt some of the millions thrown at the
Taxpayers Arena (TM) may (have) save(d) them.

See the reserves have sacked their manager. Was now or never really, they look like we’re going down, new man might just give them the lift they need.

    Second for Silva.

With all the deserved praise for KDB, it's easy to forget just how good Silva has been for all his time at City.

    Cracking player IMO.

No way should that Southampton side be anywhere near the relegation zone. Pellegrino did a terrible job, imo.
