More on it here, from last Friday; http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/north-...-darlington-ace-michael-smith-84229-29266107/ Tall, young and looks like he could cost about about £100k. At 19, doubt he will be the answer to our strikers, but rather another to develop!
Hmmm, we need another target man, Dyche's team know about him then we do, so if they think he's the answer I would back him over this.
Seems West Ham have had a bid for Baldock turned down, reported to be for £1.5m, so that seems to put him way out of our price range!! http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_7123417,00.html Do they really need another striker with who they have, especially as they play 5 across the midfield with just the one striker???
Leicester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson expects striker Martyn Waghorn to leave the club in the coming weeks. Could be available on loan or perm - would he be any good to us?
I read that he only scored 5 for them last season as a fringe player, yet we have players who scored more at this level. Is this what we need? Another development player?? We have 2/3 academy strikers looking to break through so why buy another young player and pay him?? We need a proven scorer and someone who will jump the gap in divisions and step right into the skin. Thats a shame, but wasnt he just a bit of a wish rather than anything. It does get annoying when teams snatch up the quality players and then dont use them! It takes away the competition and proves that its all about the money Worth a shot surely! But then again we are getting to the stage where anyone will do!!
Hey guys. I am not certain and please correct me if wrong, but have you never had Deeney playing in an 'out and out forward role' for a decent spell of time? I know he can be used out wide too, and if a player has that ability sometimes it can go against him in not quite knowing where to stick them (especially when they first arrive at the club). Call me deluded but with a big man in Iwelumo up front, surely the pace of Troy could be a good foil for him to knock down balls to? Suppose the main question is can he finish? If no, is it the type of thing that could be cured with extra training and just generally playing more in that position? Not saying he should replace Sordell! More, maybe you have a player who could bag 10/15 goals a season if utilised to maximum effect!
Deeney looks like he has no confidence up front would not be a good idea. We need a poacher type and a creative midfielder.
Tiv, I whole heartedly agree a poacher and a creative midfielder as we were found wanting on Tuesday night! IMO
We want a striker but then every club wants a striker. In fact, every club would like to have all the strikers, if hey could afford them, to reduce what is available for other clubs. What marks out a good coach is one that can make a team that is better than the sum of its parts, and can get players to perform better as individuals than was thought possible. GT did this. Ross Jenkins senior was hopeless until GT got to him. We cannot afford a top class, ready formed 20 goal a season striker. We can afford a potential 20 goal a season man but he has to fit into the team we already have. We make the chances to score. Now we need to make the scorer. Some players can be improved more easily than others.
Absolutely agree NZ. A team can go out and buy a player who has just has a season where he has scored 20+ goals, but there is no certainty that with different players or style around him he can do it again.
Le Fondre could be that poacher then! I know there has been money made available for a forward, and hasn't 350k been banded around for ALF? Would he be a realistic transfer for you?
So it looks like its not going to be Baldock, Le Fondre or the lad from Crewe according to this: http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...aven_t_bid_for_Baldock_and_want_Weimann_back/ But it could be Weimann back on loan. I like the idea of bringing in a young and promising goalscorer from League 1 / 2 and wonder if the players they are targetting fit that mould. As long as we don't go for Kuqi, Mellor or any of the other big lumps we were linked with in the summer! Thoughts?
I think Andreas Weimann coming back has been a good possability since the end of last season when both he and the club expressed their interest. When he played, he looked like he could fill the Danny role with lots of running and some good finishing. After the debacle of him being recalled to AV for one youth match everything settled down. If he does come I do hope it's a season long loan or perm and I think we still need another on top of that.
Agree with you Chris,AW is a great worker and when he was on loan last year he wanted to play for the team, agree season loan would be preferable, don't want to lose our backbone at Xmas as last year.
