Watched the game last night as a neutral and really enjoyed the match. Credit to both sides for their attacking football. Was pleased to see Pardew put out a reasonably strong tem in the carling cup unlike other premier league teams.
I thought in the first half, you guys hadnt really turned up and scunthorpe took advantage of that and scored 1 and nearly a second. In the second half, you really put pressure on scunny and your pressure paid off with a great free kick from ryan taylor. I felt you should have had a penalty but oh well...

In extra time it was also well contested but sammy ameobi's strike was good enough to win any game. IN all, it was a great advert for the carling cup.
Lastly, credit to the newcastle fans who didn't stop farking singing the whole match even when you were losing... You lot stand by your team wherever you go and the atmosphere you guys create is immense.
anyway well done, look forward to coming to st james' park for our match later on in the season and all the best for the rest of the season :)

It was a cracking cup tie. Top marks to Scunny, they didn't half press our lads quickly first half and we didn't earn the right to play until the second half. They probably deserved a little luck with a couple of decisions. I'm just glad we managed to get through a potential banana skin. I really hope we can take this competition seriously & keep progressing.

Well summed up, as Mr.Novemebr said Scunthorpe pressed us in the first half got in our faces and didn't give us time to settle. So top marks to them for playing footbal rather than parking the bus.

We also had a goal disallowed which was a tight decision and should have stood IMO.

Always welcome a neutrals views on all things footy<ok>

The more i think about it the more i love pardew, clever enough to take it to extra time so we could get more conditioning work in for some of the new/fringe/younger players. What a manager. Good result in the end and good article OP, only the third game of the season people need to remember and after a self admitted poor pre season we're still building up steam so to speak. will be glad when the transfer window is shut though so we can stop wondering who/if will come in!

One of the best atmosphere's I've been part of at an away match. Phenomenal support! Best away game I've been to so far, capped by a beauty of a goal!

I was watching it on a stream last night with the volume up high.

The wife thinks everyone there is a nutter but did giggle at the Colo song.

How many away games have you been to?

Cup game atmosphere tends to be a bit different because of the instant knock out. Not like you can make up for lost points over the course of the season.
