If they used the drug with the intention of performance enhancement then they didn't bend or stretch it the rule, they broke it, it's as simple as that.

With the current evidence you're correct, we can only say conclusively that they have bent the rules to their advantage, not cheated.

I suspect it's not over though and it will only take one whistleblower for the truth to come out.

I don’t like all this witch-huntery. I’m entirely sure that - because he’s British and not one of those dirty, cheating foreigners - the special asthma medicine that Old **** Hair had specially couriered was entirely legitimate and in no way could he possibly acquire said medicine locally. After all, he was in Foreignland at the time and we all know what their substances are like. Well done to him on not taking any risks.

As an aside, isn’t it weird how asthma always suddenly flares up in the weeks immediately before a race?

Is what he's done as bad as the simulation, diving etc that goes on in football?

And weird how many top athletes suffer from asyhma nowadays compared to years go. Did they battoe through asthma to reach the top? Or develop asthma after becoming an athlete. A surprising number of swimmers suffer from asthma as well

Not really, the rates of asthma have pretty much doubled since the 80's.

That was discussed on here a short while ago, someone will correct me again but basically those asthma medicines open the windpipe to help you breath. So if you don't have asthma but use the meds your windpipe will be larger therefore let more air into your lungs enhancing your performance otherwise known as cheating.

I was referring to the amount of top athletes who have asthma and need certain drugs, which coincidentally increase perfirmance levels, to treat them.
Your point is not relevant as post mentioned the proportion of top athletes compared to years ago.
Funny, smoking used to get the blame for asthma. As smoking has decreased the incidence of asthma has increased.

At the 2004 Olympics 4.6% of all the athletes declared themselfs to be suffering from asthma, and now it is claimed that 70% of Britains top swimmers have the condition. The waters are certainly muddy.

Seems fair, 70% of the UK population has asthma.

    Or something.

70% of top UK swimmers and 33% of Team Sky cyclists suffer from some form of Asthma, suggests there's twice as much cheating in swimming than cycling?

    Don’t doubt it whatsoever.

Theres still no way in a million years 33% of our top cyclists have reached that level despite the obvious disadvantage of having asthma. There might conceivably be - and I’m being generous - 3% who have it. So the other 30% are plain cheating.

Sounds like we’ve put this one to bed. Well done all. What next - the Palestine question?

I only knew of one childhood friend who had asthma. A friends granddaughter said half her class have inhalers.

Yes, interesting that our elite athletes have a high percentage of asthma sufferers. Fookin ell, just think how well they could do if they were fully fit.

    I'm not surprised.

    It's all that cycling uphill.

Indeed. You’d almost think anyone who struggled with asthma would be eclipsed in their youth by cyclists who didn’t have asthma and it would be these latter non asthma sufferers who went on to compete at the elite level.

    It really is baffling.

There all at it - cheating that is.

    Cycling
    Olympics
    Paralympics

    The list is endless

It's what competitive sportsmen and women do.

Yesterday there was a Doctor on TalkSport who said that the medication he has wasn't anabolic, and actually breaks down proteins, so to use it for 'performance enhancing' purposes would be let down! They also mentioned Kenalog injections for his hay fever, around 8/9 years ago I would have a Kenalog injection in the top of your buttock at the start of the hay fever season for me (June) and it would clear all symptoms for 4-6 weeks. Then around 5 years ago my Doctor would no longer give me it as there was research to show it was bad for your hip bones

Doctors follow trends in diagnosis, depending which drug the pharmaceutical companies are pushing.
