Well Stoke and Southampton sharing the points I think just about makes us safe. But must say a little disappointed when thinking of the players we have. But I guess the new guy needs time to meld them into a well oiled machine. On the plus side great to see Richarlison so hungry to play every minute. As Scullion said the other week he sometimes seems to just take on one player too many, just like Stewart the legend. But he is young and can develop with the right guidance. Hope the 'orns who braved it get back home into the warm all safe and sound. Enjoy your week one and all.
Takes the pressure off the Arsenal & Liverpool games somewhat, be nice to do the double over the Goooners though
Troy Deeney scored in his 300th league appearance for Watford - he also scored on his 50th, 100th, 150th, 200th and 250th for the club.
The last time i looked i thought we sacked him and was not giving him anything because he broke his contact
Pretty much the same as last week expect West Brom had some decent chances. Great pass by Hughes and finish by Deeney. A rare moment of quality in a scrappy game where Mariappa and the goalie were probably our best players ! Little fire in the SEJ advertising hoardings caused more interest than the 1st half. Okaka made a difference again although though Richarlison was a bit hard done by to come off first.
Back from a short stint to the shops, Mrs knows when to take me as think she heard we'd won! You are right OFH - it was just onside as some heavy mouse tapping on this replay showed me: What a difference two very scrappy wins make, all results went our way today too!!
I was glad it was Deeney who was put through by Hughes. Gray would have missed. The Arsenal game is quickly becoming a six pointer!
Game was full of mistakes and poor play from both teams, that said I am not sure with Pardews comments that they deserved something. Watford were much better than WBA in the majority of the areas of the game Absolutely superb and composed finish by Mr Deeney, the guy gets criticism and arguably some of his actions/words leave him open for this, but that was absolutely top drawer finish and when he is on form, he is very difficult to play against. I thought Carrillo was very lucky to be kept on the pitch by Javi, constantly bottled challenges on the floor and made token attempts to challenge for headers....he should have been hooked before Richarlison IMHO Special "praise" must go to the man in the middle again, some very questionable decisions and lack of consistency when making decisions. The less said about the corner given as a WBA goal kick at the Vic Road end the better. Great result - onto the next game
Yes Richarlison was not very happy about being taken off, a good sign I hope, but manager needs a word about accepting tactical changes whether they are correct or not.
I thought he was a bit unlucky to go off first but then Okaka did well again so Gracia will say he got that right .
No player should like being subbed but so long as they accept it (even if after a little strop) that is OK
I reckon that is a good choice. He worked hard, held the ball up, had chances that he had to work hard for, and showed some good skills. I guess deeno would have been the other main contender. But it being hard to choose a MOTM probably reflects a match that some might describe as scrappy
