A couple of inches. There’s a lot more on high ground, especially where there has been drifting. Lower down the problem isn’t so much the snow it’s the freezing, especially on the less used roads which never get gritted. Back down to -4 here, -10 with wind chill (wind from Siberia). To be fair this is such a rare occurrence that I think it’s forgivable not to have fleets of gritters and snow ploughs constantly on stand by. When I was in O’Hare in January I counted 40 snow ploughs on just the section of runway that I could see from the terminal, and I thought at the time that was probably more vehicles than we have for all U.K. airports combined.
Interesting piece about cold weather and how lower league sides in Norway deal with the extreme cold. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/43216093
I keep seeing the thread title and thinking this is a homage to Seb Polter. Buses cancelled today (didn't know before standing in a queue freezing for 30 mins for the second day running). After the local rag boasted of 23 gritters for the area and 9 for the town, I am thrilled that they today triumphantly proclaim that they have successfully kept the big bridge to the South mostly clear. Well done. I had to turn round and go home to work because the town couldn't keep the main roads clear.
-7 outside now, -15 with wind chill. Properly cold. Just went for a stroll to get milk and fingers started hurting even with ski gloves on. Feel for those without shelter tonight.

Hands were shaking so much from the cold that the post reply button must have registered three times. I wouldn't mind, except I'm on a train & they've got the AC on full blast
No snow here, but Mrs Nines who is working late three miles away has just said that she's just had eight inches. Must be some sort of micro-climate.
