He just thought he was bigger than he was - prove yourself a bit more first then move up! We never mind managers or players moving on, just do it in the right way! Maybe the WBA job will humble him a little - just as long as it's after this Saturday!
What Arsenal need is a top level manager, who has a proven record of being strong defensively. I think going for someone like Rodgers, who is ultimately a tiki taka manager would be a huge mistake. I know some may be suprised by this, but I think Antione Conte would be the perfect manager to pick Arsenal up and get them back challenging at the top of English football. He would be my first choice if I was the Arsenal board. I think he's having big problems with the interference from above at Chelsea, which will probably see him leave in the summer, but I think Arsenal would provide him with much more control, and the support needed to be successful. Hes a very clever manager IMO. The way he can set a team up in big games has always been something that has really impressed me with him. I think that is the type of manager Arsenal need. Other options I think would be a good choice, well Diego Simeone for a start, you can't fault this guys record, and his sides are always good defensively. The other guy would obviously be Carlo Ancellotti, he's probably not as tactically smart as the other 2, but he's always had something about him that's made him able to get the best out of players. He might be better suited to dealing with superstar players like at Real Madrid and AC Milan, but I still think he could do a good job for Arsenal.
All wumming aside, and trying to look at this as a neutral, I would have to agree, Matth. Indeed, I was predicting this day quite a few seasons ago. Wenger has protected Arsenal from the ravages faced by so many clubs, including my own. Gooners, for years, took the piss out of us for our apparent lack of ability to find a manager good enough to match our ambition. I predicted, long ago, that the boot will be very much on the other foot, when Wenger leaves. The sad thing is, that I had expected Wenger to retire with grace and dignity. Now, I fear he could end up being sacked. That would be an extremely ignoble end to an otherwise illustrious career.
I agree. I know that some of you will scoff at this, but I think someone like Roy Hodgson would be an ideal fit for Arsenal. Okay, he's not going to win you the league - but neither is Wenger, these days, let's face it, eh, lads! But what Hodgson will do is steady the ship, which is going to hit some very rocky waters in the wake of Wenger's departure. He'll make some shrewd, safe signings, and he'll have a good crack at keeping them in the Europa League for most seasons. After a few seasons with Hodgson, they can think about someone with a bit more ambition, like Moyes or Eddie Howe. The key thing for Arsenal, I believe, is that they learn to walk before attempting to run. The ArsenalTV lads won't necessarily like it, but the club will benefit from learning to build on a solid foundation.
