There has been a long debate that Joe Lewis
could have invested into Spurs at a modest level
(not Sugga Daddy FC silliness) that would have
    serious ROI for the club.

But with the UEFA FFP stuff etc, the option has
now gone even if his soul depended on being
    able to so.

Our owners said when they bought the club they weren't sugar daddy owners and we'd have to live within our means, their net spend since taking over might surprise you, but they are not scared to spend big before selling surplus players.

    Every little does help

I mean ok you are going from 36k with little corporate to 63k with 3/4 of gorund with boxes so your revenue will jump quite a lot compared to what ours did.

The issue is with wages going up you are going to eventually have to sink that directly into current playing staff wages to keep them.

We have done ok recently with wages, but we have rewarded some duds even now to the tune of 100k.

To think how little firmino, salah and mane are on (70k + goal bonuses, 130k and 90k) when sanchez earns 500k... i mean.. you can only get away with it for 2/3 years max before they all leave to higher pay.

To think lovren and henderson get more than mane... or firmino.. its mad

    this is utd team wages

    200k
    100k 75k 80k 110k
    140k 120k 290k
    20k 200k 500k

every week they come out to bore their fans to sleep to the tune of 1.835 million just to walk on the park.

    Ours
    25k
    30k 70k 180k 50k
    120k 100k 90k
    120k 70k 90k

call it a square million once firmino gets his goal bonus <laugh>

835k more just on the first 11. never mind all the squad players.

Thats why they have pogba. they out bid and out offered real. why they have sanchez. they outbid and grossly over paid. same for lukaku.

the only player worth the wages is de gea.

    city
    65k
    100k 100k 120k 90k
    350k 150k 220k
    90k 250k 180k

city bought gaurdiola ederson walker and mendy to add to his side this year. their midfield 3 are richly rewarded and their forwards are quick boys who are paid extremely well. their defence is hugely costly in wages

    1.715mil

I think we over pay.... but we are nowhere when the numbers are put out in front of you.

Imagine that unveiling of Brendan at the Emirates.

He'd bring in half of the Celtic team with him and make Scott Brown captain.<laugh>

Levy does great, and I am so grateful he is Spurs chairman.

But during 2011-13 the Goons were on the brink of what was
has happened now, and I blame Joe Lewis for not trying any
legitimate means of injecting said levels of cash into the club
that would have strengthened the squad to do precisely that.
IMHO it put Spurs progression back at least 3 years.

TBH back then you'd a clear run at 4th if you backed yourselves though in the end perhaps if you had harry kane would not have been seen so does it balance out in the end?

However as i recall you sold modric to real and got vertonghen and lloris in. I'm not really sure who you would have got to get that 2 more points to take 4th. it was so close that year and arsenal celebrated like they won the league.

we were 7th and nowhere... even everton were better than us.

No CL in 2012 : could not ask the question
    on whether Modric should stay.

No CL in 2013 : same question, but for Bale.

The 2011 season collapsed with the final third
being relegation form. So the warning signs were
there regarding squad strength. The squad was
not stronger the next season, the EL was arrogantly
tossed aside, yet the same thing happened again
(this time with the Arry for England saga thrown in) .

The destination seems to have been reached now,
but IMHO it could have been reached a lot sooner if
Joe Lewis had did what I stated.

Does he take much from the club in the form of dividends etc or does he let it all ride on the value of the club growing.?

I'm firmly of the view that clubs shouldn't require an owner to lob huge wads of cash at them but only spend the money they generate inc loans. The one exception to this is to some extent investment in the infrastructure therefore increasing value of the club.

Joe Lewis takes nothing, as he is worth billions.

Levy draws salary + dividends (about 2m odd last
financial year) , but he is entitled to that given he
is successfully driving the on-pitch stuff, the new
    WHL build etc.

There was an urban myth that Lewis would sell
if he got a 500m offer, but with the club on the
rise that figure has probably now at least doubled.

That doesn't stop some of them grasping for every penny :bandit:

I'd have no complaints about an owner doing that if nothing else it means you aren't so vulnerable if the funding is suddenly removed.

PS is ENIC solely a Joe Lewis "vehicle" ?

The man has made his fortune on currency speculation,
which is as perilous as most. So it is the source of my
anger at him regarding Spurs (a very low cost/risk
injection of his filthy lucre compared to his day job) .

    Indeed.

No because both of those teams outspent us by half a billion and only one of them will finish the season above us <ok>

oh i know where Lewis made his money but i assume he has diversified quite a bit since then particularly since he resides in a low regulation tax haven .

yeah i know i could have looked it up myself but i learnt from a grumpy old man on here ( @Red Hadron Collider ) that it is much easier to get you young whippersnappers to do it for me <laugh>

The nature of his portfolio is moot.

The fact that the money he could have
invested into Spurs when it was IMHO
needed, is a minuscule % of the value of
that portfolio, is again what annoys me.

but if he has no interest in football & just used ENIC to make strategic investments ,possibly thru the input of Levy , in sports clubs he may be reluctant to make funds available to the club for purposes of purchasing , transient assets i.e. players , in which he sees only small percentage chance of really good returns . Again i go back to my point that a club should finance its day to day spending itself.
Since neither of us have any idea what Lewis thinks , assuming he does think about Spurs , we might as well leave it at that.

There’s a post the flat earth society made on Facebook saying ‘we have members all around the world’ with no sense of irony in the post <laugh>
