BREAKING NEWS: EFL Championship ; Chris club Sunderland AFC may just of found their knight in shining armour as reports are filtering in Virgin Group billionaire Sir Richard Branson's advisors are currently in negotiations with club owner Ellis Short over a proposed take over. It's our understanding the deal will go through for just £1 providing both parties reach an agreement over the club's crippling financial debts that stand at a whopping £140M. Virgin want the debt reduced to half that amount for a deal to be concluded (£70M) so its now upto Short if he wants a quick sale to accept. Our correspondent has already said heavy squad investment coupled with a new naming of the Stadium of Light are in the pipeline and it will become the 'Virgin Media Arena' Also close personal friend Harry Redknapp would be immediately installed as Director of Football in a bid to keep the club in the championship and make an all out assault on the title next season with promotion to the premier league a must. Its no secret Mr Branson was looking at purchasing Norfolk outfit Norwich City FC but both parties were a million miles apart regarding the valuation. More to follow
I'm not sure that we're in any position to be picky, tbh... Heavy investment, but a renamed stadium and putting up with ole saggy chops (behind the scenes) for a bit vs administration? No-brainer for me.
I totally agree mate. This isn't a time for gut reactions. Just don't call it the Rednapp Stadium, the St. Harry Arena or any **** like that
Please God...let this happen. I don't care if they had the Telly Tubbies as Director of Football...anything is better than watching this inevitable destruction and decline of our great club
Redknapp has always done a good job of slagging us off and further tarnishing our reputation. So, if he's on our side, on our payroll, he'll speak good of us, and with the media enfatuation with him, it could at least do our image some good. For that I'll tolerate him short term if it means this takeover
I'd recommend assuming that it's all bollocks. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm sick of getting my hopes up for nothing.
He’s also applied for the managers job twice. As a director of football he might have some value, as long as it’s not pulling the rug from Coleman, who remains firmly the right man for me despite the current continued **** shower on the pitch.
I can't see why a smart businessman like Branson would want to employ someone like redknapp. His financial dealings in the past are hardly any secret to the calamity he's bought to any/all clubs that he's been involved with.
