Holgate and Firmino incident !

For many, football is more about tribalism than the game itself, so a mob mentality can grow. Perhaps a lot of people don't discuss their opinions with anyone outside of their own group so they become reinforced?
One of the better things about expressing yourself on here is that opinions are constantly challenged and having to back up your opinion with a cogent argument can lead you to examine it more.
Doesn't always work, but it's better than nothing.

One eyed? You're the one supporting Holgate no matter what. All I've done is present my reasoning that if Holgate apologises it was probably a mistake and if he doesn't apologise he probably lied. I allow both possibilities, you?

 

Wrong, you've labelled him a liar from the off, so that's completely disingenuous

 

Because he has behaved in the way I think a liar would behave, and not in the way I think someone who is mistaken would behave. All of that is based on his actions which he has full control of and can decide to change at any moment.

 

I think Holgate should apologise and admit he got it wrong. There’s nothing wrong with Holgate reporting racial abuse and we should encourage all players to be vocal if they feel targeted.

However, it was proven to be false and Firmino has wrongfully had this cloud over his head for the past 6-7 weeks.

Then the pair can move on.

 

If Holgate misheard Firmino and brought him a coffee with sugar instead of without he should apologise. So if Holgate misheard Firmino and subjected him to a 7 week investigation that could ruin his career he definitely should apologise. The only reason not to would be because he is a sociopath or he deliberately attempted to injure Firmino's reputation the same way he had intentionally attempted to injure him physically.

I'm sure the blue side disagree with this entirely reasonable position.

 

I’ll give Holgate the benefit of the doubt and presume he genuinely heard a racist remark.

In any such case, I would expect everyone to report it.

 

This for me is the deciding factor, anyone else after thinking about it all would question if they really did hear it or if they were mistaken, but not Holgate and the only reason he can be sure he didn't mis hear it is because he made it all up!
