The fa have always been political. In this statement they have dealt with internet warriors saying holgate made it all up. If the fa didn't say anything about holgate at all in this those types would be saying he made it all up.

That should not be their problem ...or more accurately a separate problem.

We rightly no longer accept the claim "he must be guilty ...look! He's black!"

The opposite approach must not replace that. Otherwise it will give oxygen to bigots.

If a governing body can not carry out impartial investigations from start to finish then they should pass the responsibility to another body that can.

Once again the FA prove their complete inability to properly handle a sensitive issue.
They've made a total bollocks of this from beginning to end.

So, it seems the "mistaken" allegation was inadvertantly the perfect smokescreen for Holgate to avoid a red card.

Yes. Very sloppy use of language by the FA. Insufficient evidence suggests there was evidence but not enough to satisfy the burden of guilt employed by the FA. Whatever that is! You can't racially abuse someone "a bit".

These only possibilities these statements leave open are:

    A) Holgate genuinely misheard what was said but is a complete tw@t for now not even admitting the possibility.
    OR
    B) it was a malicious accusation by Holgate because he is a complete tw@t.

Hope Rooney sees the error of his judgement, he'd been subbed yet he was off the bench and in the melee and referees ear backing Holgate's "mistaken" allegation, something he probably laughed at Liverpool FC doing in the aftermath of the Suarez/Evra situation.:emoticon-0105-wink:

Dont think its sloppy at all, the lawyers and PR teams will have been discussing it for weeks making sure there is no hint of clearing somebody accused of racism.

On the FA statement re Holgate they have no evidence that he doesn't genuinely believe that he heard a racist term therefore they have to clear him of any suggestion it was a "tactic" however the same principle should apply to Firmino for exactly the same reasons.

@astro on the PL thread is right.

What evidence do the FA have that Holgate didn't make it up? If there was no evidence it happened how can they state that so categorically?

I'm not saying he did make it up because I don't have evidence for that. But that works both ways. By stating that conclusion the FA contradicts their (flawed) approach to Firmino.

They are going out of their way with nothing to back it up to raise the legitimacy of one statement over the other.

That’s how Ched Evans is out of prison....not enough evidence. Now are people released this way guilty or not?

    Headline in Express.....
Liverpool star Roberto Firmino avoids FA charge over Mason Holgate race allegation.
To me this implies he was lucky not to be charged as opposed to nothing ever to answer for.****ing scumbag media.

Be interesting to see if any further statements are made by either club. Makes things tasty for the game at GP, well probably turns it into a circus.

Hopefully Firmino shoves Holgate over the hoardings into the crowd full tilt in the first minute shouting "you are crazy mother ****er" in Portuguese....

He will be foaming at the mouth wanting Holgate hung for the claim he made.

I said for I’m the start that I hope it was a misunderstanding. The wording used in statement leaves it open I fear and it will rumble in for month in social media.
