If we are to focus on next season with integration of resources and continued development of the tactical approach, then should we drop Maddison? as surely his inclusion postpones development of the plans for a post Maddison City that will surely be the case come the summer. This also goes for loanees that might be unlikely to stay. Bah!
I'd counter that by suggesting the more he plays now and the better he gets, the higher the bidding will open at as and when he inevitable happens. Which, for a club in our financial position......
I'm not convinced any PL team is actually interested yet at £20m+ either. The likeliest possibility might be Wolves, but they don't really play a number 10 and they already have a range of expensive players to play behind the striker. The time will come, but until it does he should play for us. As for loan players, we don't know how many of those might be here next year.
If you believe some of the tweets floating around (FLW etc!!), WetSham fans are convinced that Moyes should fork out that sort of money for JM, but as both you and canario have said, I'm not convinced that he'll leave before the start of next season.
You summise that no one will take a punt at £20m+ but what makes you think that he then won't go? We are a selling club, if the bidding only reaches £17m and JM says he wants to leave, do you believe that we won't take the money? Bah!
With parachute payments having dried up and no other viable sources of revenue stream available other than player sales, I think Maddison and Lewis will both be hot property - probably Godfrey, too, despite playing at a lower level this season. I'll be amazed if all / any of the three are still at the club next September. And knowing our status as one of the paupers of the division, interested clubs won't have to break the bank to acquire these players
You think he would decline; 3, 4, 5, 10! times his current wages and a chance to play in the PL? He is a sensible lad and I think he wouldn't jump at just any offer, but he is also a very confident lad, he will believe he is ready to play for a middling PL team, I think he'd be right too. It would be a hell of a jump, but he isn't going to be frightened of it and if he wants to develop faster, playing at the highest level he can, with the best players alongside him and against him then I think he would be silly to stay. Nor can I see him doing so. What can he hope for at City? Playing time? Definitely. Starring in a struggling side? Probably. Promotion? Unlikely. Good salary? Not by modern footballing standards.Working with a manager he trusts and can develop him? Probably, but I would venture Farke and City are far from the only club where that is possible, why not do it for £80K per week instead of £10k per week (No idea what he currently gets, I suspect nearer £20k as our star player but we've all heard the grim accounts and wage structure going forward, so it could be much less!) There is a difference between angling to leave and having your head turned by a large offer your agent whispers in your ear. I genuinely can't see Madders here next season, he is too good for our current situation. Bah!
My sentiments entirely, General - do you agree with me that we'll be doing well to keep hold of Lewis next season based on his performances so far this?
Yes and no, I think there maybe interest and possibly offers. I don't think the offers will be at this stage beyond our wage structure. He has bags of potential but I'm not sure he has proved enough yet to be ready or considered ready to be a PL starter. I think he has loan back written all over him. They get him cheaper we get another year and develop him for them some more. JM though, I don't think buyers will want him loaned back, he is a difference maker that all but the top 6 would be looking to make an impact. Bah!
Good post General and I'm still not convinced that JM will leave is in the summer. If Tettey agrees a new contract, then I don't believe we'll see Godfrey back at CR next season (sadly) and he may decide to ask for a transfer - we SHOULD have Thompson back for next season!!! Lewis I'm sure will be on the promoted teams' radar.
I am planning on going out tonight for some food in the city. Do you guys know where they might be showing this on TV in a pub?
GM and Cromer I hear what you say, I just think he will realise that he stands a better chance of developing in our first team rather than a Premiership under 23 team.
#Leedsagain Pretty much every game they play is on. I have Kodi but it keeps cutting out so will watch SSN they often show the goals as they happen with Radio Norfolk in the background
Pretty sure it won't be showing in any of the pubs, but if you fancy some unusual ales, pop down to St Andrews Hall (the Halls) for the Great British Beer Festival Winter!!!
