Draw probably a fair result but that was absolutely gutting. Bart and defence switched off for final ten seconds. That hurt.
Considering we spend 90 minutes most weeks closing out games, the fact we were unable to do it for 7 is galling. Feels like a defeat. But, didn't lose and draw probably reflects the game. Pretty much kills both sides playoff hopes, nice to know we're above them though.
Shame we couldn't hang on but would have settled for the draw at the start so no too disappointed.Plus keeps us above them.
Confess to missing the whole game as out for brunch with my son and girlfriend..didnt give it a moments thought til, oh well better check final score, as one does out of 55 year habit....on balance, seems a goodish performance, dogged commitment, but where the hell does extra 5 mins come from?! No excuse for a tired witching off at the finish tho. My big Q. Does this change our minds at all about Mick and the players? And who travelled up to Norwich to watch the game?
I’ve no complaints today, I think Micks tactics were pretty spot on to be fair, just a pity we couldn’t see it out. 5 mins or not we should’ve seen that out.
That’s was bloody annoying......but on the plus side at least MM won’t be signing his contract extension on the back of the result.
Guess the biggest talking point is Mick swearing during the goal celebration. I've seen the clip and he looks pretty angry to me. Certainly doesn't look happy, he nearly spat his teeth out! Looks like he's looking slightly upwards too as if towards the stands. https://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/33196/mccarthy-denies-aiming-tirade-at-fans
What is depressing is the fact our most attacking player bar the 2 strikers was Gleeson. We chose to stick rather than twist in games all too much and it's got to that point now in terms of Mick despite the fact actually in terms of league position considering our funds he's done pretty well but we've come to a point now where we need to twist and change the manager even if it is a risk.
Thoughts ( may be a bit off halfcut ) First half, tactics spot on - said to a mate in pub ' we'll tire, we're really going at them pressing ' and we were both sure Norwich wouldn't be as crap second half / we'd tire. Second half, clearly Norwich upped it. SHOULD have scored when their player onside by a mile.... but he fluffed it. If you stay in a game, you always have a chance... boom goal. What annoyed me most = subs............ Iorfa / Spence = whatever if he was tired he had to come off. The other two annoyed me.... Clearly not a game for Dids, would have preferred Celina. Found it hard. As for Hyam, jesus woeful. Nowhere near good enough and no coincidence for me in Norwich having the better of the last 25. Tired or not Gleeson was far better than Hyam who is really in my Bru pile - sooner gone the better. Great point vs a side that are massively underachieving, going nowhere with parachute ££££.
Gleeson? Really PTC? other than a couple of crosses, I barely heard him. Other than Bart, thought our best player was Iorfa ...definitely one of his best games for us. I think my biggest frustration, other than the substitutions was waghorn in the last minute. We had the ball near the corner flag, and instead of keeping the ball for another 30 seconds, decides to give possession back to them, they lump it forward and score . We did the same against Wednesday ..we just panic and can't see a game out
Stretchyboy i meant on paper. We had 5 defenders all whom probably their best position is CB, 2 defensive midfielders 1 of which was brought here as a CB and then Gleeson who is a CM.
That system with one of Huws, Bishop, Adayemi or Dozzell instead of Gleeson would have given us much more balance. As it was (and is often the case) we had a midfield three who offered next to nothing when in possession, which led to lumping it long and isolating our attacking players. Biggest frustration was that although we were poor, Norwich were pretty much as bad and were certainly there for the taking if we'd had more composure on the ball. I'd also say that without Maddison, they will be a bang average side and he didn't even play that well yesterday but was still their biggest threat, I'd love to see how much of their possession was with him as they seemed desperate to just give him the ball at every opportunity & hope he creates something.
You may have hardly noticed a Mr Gleeson - however with him on the pitch we completely nullified Norwich for the most part. Sure, they were ontop second... On comes Mr Hyam 66, within 20 seconds Maddison is let go and chaos ensues, then Norwich absolutely pulled our pants down in cm the remaining 24 minutes. Hyam was bloody hopeless yesterday. Truly horrific ' performance '. To be fair to the lad, he's not anywhere near fully fit - had ages out and his style of play requires being fit for a long time etc and having confidence in his body not breaking down. Gleeson was far better than Connolly yesterday, who was also nothing special - did his job, but nowt spesh.
