Ive never been Fryatts biggest fan since he was a big factor in us getting relegated to league one. Heskey and Cottee would be my favourite. You haveto take account the period of the game they were in as well, the big man & poacher wouldn't work as well today for example.
He and Howard were key to getting us in the play offs the season after we got promoted as well though. Tbf when we went down we were a sinking ship that needed it. We were in years of decline and got nowhere near the playoffs since we came down from the prem so I remember that squad fondly for what we had at the time. None of us know how lucky we’d be a few years later
Can anyone name that league 1 team? From What I remember... Stockdale/Martin/Fulop Gilbert/Morrison Hobbs Brown Mattock ?? Oakley King Dyer Fryatt Howard Who am I missing? Have I confused any with the championship seasons?
Kisnorbo? Cleverley and Marin Davies were good loanee. Clemence I think and was DJ Campbell still with us?
We also had Tony Warner as goalkeeper - we were really unlucky with them that season. In defence we also had Chris Powell and Alekander Tunchev. In midfield had Bruno Burner as DM, Tom Cleverly & Mark Davies on loan and Max Gredel broke into the senior squad. In attack we brought back Paul Dickov. Kisnorbo and Clemence were both long term injured list - don't think either of them played a game in L1. We also got rid of DJ Campbell as soon as we could.
I forgot Tunchev - before his injury he just looked a class apart. Probably the greatest defender in my lifetime in terms of ability above the level played.
Fulop was the year before. Great keeper and such a tragic loss at so young We had 6 keepers in league 1 Paul Henderson, David Martin, Carl Pentney, David Stockdale, Tony Warner and Mark Bunn Gradel, Berner, Dickov, Nicky Adams, Tom Cleverley, Tunchev, Chris Powell
