There's a lengthy interview in today's Guardian with one of Bennell's victims. It is very difficult reading, even though it has been in the news a lot recently. Skipping the details, the most surprising thing to me is how widely Bennell's predeliction was known. When boys from Crewe mixed with boys from many other clubs, they would invariably be told "Oh, you're from the *****phile club". Yet Crewe still had the public perception of being an ideal club to send promising kids if you wanted them to fulfil their potential. Dario Gradi is someone I have always admired for his dedication, yet it's hard to imagine he didn't have strong suspicions about Bennell's activities, considering how widely they were known outside the club. He must be searching his conscience right now.
I’m not particularly a fan of Pep Guardiola, but he spoke very well on the subject yesterday. Any parent would feel a sense of outrage. Man City are very culpable but Crewe even more so. Dario Gradi was suspended last time I heard, he has certainly tarnished his reputation with the way he handled matters. *****philes are the most vile people on earth, the death penalty should be automatic for those like Bennell.
Dario Gradi is equally liable IMO. Crazy how much talent came from Crewe despite all the **** that was going on behind the scenes.
The rich and powerful have been noncing forever. Public hangings should come back for every single offender.
At least Bennell, unlike Savile, has been caught before he died. You also have to feel for the parents.
What has always struck me is how incredibly thick some of these people are. Most people wipe unwanted files (including pornography maybe) off their computers by using a handy command known as 'delete'. It's pretty simple to use really. But no - here's a better idea! Ask an employee of the football Club to remove it instead. After all, he is not likely to tell the press a few years later is he. About as dumb as Gary Glitter taking his filth-ridden laptop to PC World to get it fixed.
That is actually a bit of a tall story. Really? Dario asks someone to wipe off the porn references to ..er.... stop anyone knowing he watched porn. Outside the world of tge tabloid press, does that story actually mske any sense at all?
