I'm just wondering whether it's actually November 2011 and Sunderland are cast adrift at the bottom of the premier league by 7 points. Just after reading many of the posts and comments on our board since Saturday, you'd think that was our predicament. Yes Saturday was painful. yes Bruce had a bizarre formation on Tuesday night which cost us, but does that constitute a crisis and by some, a virtual hate campaign against our manager? 3 matches into the season and so far we've achieved an excellent draw at Anfield, lost to the Skunks after bossing most of the game, but running out out ideas late on after failing to take our chances and been defeated by a good Championship side at their ground. It has to be noted that 3 premiership sides all had much worse defeats than we did in the cup, but are their fans calling for their managers head? I just think we need to step back and try to view the results so far with a bit more objectivity and perspective. I think a lot of this is coming from the fact we lost to our great rivals. If we got beat 1-0 and home to say Fulham, then maybe all of this anger and vitriol against Bruce wouldn't have surfaced so dramatically. A decent win at Swansea and suddenly everything is ok! one match! We have virtually a new team, so it would be crazy to judge after just 3 games. Seeing as there is no time machine, we should wait until November and judge Bruce and our team then, but I'm willing to bet we'll not be anywhere near the relegation zone. KTF!
Nice one mate, did you get that letter sent? I think a lot of people are pee'd off at losing to the mags in tame fashion, added to that, their have been some unexpected team choices and tactics.
Erm the letter's in the draft stage. I don't have much time to do other stuff with me having to teach a disgraceful 17 hours a week! Slavery I tell ye! I'll get it sent on Saturday when I've recovered from my exhaustion!
I dont think its so much the losses that are the problem with some supporters, yes they were bad, but its his team selection and his stubboniss in playing players in the wrong places... If we lost them 2 games, with a good team and good formation, and it was a flukey goal them fair enough. But the team selection left us there for the taking!
Tbh, i'm pretty sick of people harping on about how hard we once had it and using that as a stick to beat anyone who dare suggest things aren't super rosey right now. Should we just accept whatever is our state just because we once had blah, blah, blah as manager or we were once in blah, blah, blah league or we once had blah, blah, blah player? It's a pathetic mentality.
But that's not my argument on this thread. I agree that our hopes, aspirations and expectations should only be based on our current financial set up and bollocks to the past, So obviously we must be aiming a lot higher than any time in the last 50 years or so. I just think we need to cut Bruce a little slack until all the new players are bedded in and we can then see a clearer picture of his managerial abilities.
