Tuesday's Meetings Southwell A/W 6 Races 2:20-5:00p.m. Ayr Abandoned Lingfield Park Abandoned Racecards At The Races Racing Post Sporting Life Good Luck
Everywhere abandoned bar Southwell, Aguerooooooo 4pm southwell, 18/1 could be massive, been on a winning mark for a while, won at southwell before and now makes his first start for D Griffiths, reckon it might resume winning ways today, Stevie Donohoe owes me a win for beating idol as well
Ruler Of The Nile. 2.55. 11/2 I think this one has a good chance today. Runs well at Southwell, on a manageable mark, and won it's only race at this time last year. I think the little stepup in trip may help too.
Desperate stuff boys, low grade deep sand racing, Broadhaven Honey in the last, won well here and had a break, Harris in form, also like Katie Gale whose course form is good and if sweetened up by change of scenary, could make a mockery of her price 12/1,small stakes only though!
Oceanus has been in my tracker for a while, ever since it should have won at Brighton on 10th October. It's Julia Feilden's only runner this week, goes in the Southwell 2.20 (Im4F apprentice h'cap), and Julia says: ''We have been wanting to run him over hurdles again but the ground has been too soft for him. He ran very well in the circumstances to finish third on the flat last time and if he can repeat that performance on his first try at Southwell, I think he has a good chance. He is a great horse to train as he is so versatile and has a great attitude so he definitely deserves to get his head in front again.'' I reckon the trip and surface will suit, Birkett is better than your average apprentice for sure, and at 25/1 in several places (13 run so 1/4 odds for place) this has got to be worth 1 pt e/w for me. (6th)
Beef Stew and dumplings. 9/10. I’m still Lamenting with a capital ‘L’ over Coeur De Lion missing the cut in last terms ‘Ces’. Putting on my serious hat, for a moment, I’m not sure what they are up to today re this one. He’s rated 83 on the level and I think Coeur De Lion has the potential to get this perch, in time, to close to 3 figures. However are they really going to potentially blow his handicap mark for a prize of £9k??? If they are out to win I think Coeur De Lion will oblige this afternoon but is that really going to be the case??? The other thing to consider is whether or not this is merely a ‘prep’, a ‘warm up’, call it what you want, for next month’s Cheltenham Festival. A hurdles perch of 139 would make him a valid contender for something like the ‘County Hurdle’, ‘Coral Cup’ or 'Daddy Martin' race. You pay’s your money and you takes your pick. There is just too much uncertainty though (and suspicions that bigger plans are the focus and not today) for me to get involved with Couer De Lion this afternoon.
Just noticed that you can get 25’s re CDL for the ‘Daddy Martin’ race at the Festival. There are plenty worse 25/1 shots re next month than that. Will we see movement after the heat on Southwell Sands at 3.25?!? Time will tell, troops.
I’m guessing that what connections would be looking for would be to get CDL perched on something in the region of the late 80’s (maybe even 90) prior to the release of the weights for the 2018 £250,000 Ces. They could achieve that in one move this afternoon but would they want to achieve this ratings increase by winning just £9k??? That is the question. Intrigued by his run this afternoon but clueless if he is out to win or ‘prep’ for elsewhere.
If they put CDL away, on the level, until the Ces that win, just now, should guarantee him a run - I assume he'll go up 5 - 6 lbs. Wonder if he'll revert to hurdles (and possibly Cheltenham) now???
