Back in the days of 606 i said the likes of Richardson,Clattermole, and Bruce wern't in anyway shape or form good enough.I tried and tried to give them the benefit of the doubt,i even tried to convince myself that it didn't really matter after all its been like this for more years than i care to remember.(with the odd exception).i honestly believe that Bruce is a mediocre manager at best and he dosn't deserve to be where is,(why cant he go and manage his own carp up the road). This man needs to be shown the door quickly before any more damage is done.Either get M Oneill or chuck a load of compensation at blackpool for Mr Hollaway, with both of them you get an honesty and the ability to get the best out of players and have more than one plan up his sleeve.Keeping the faith but its so very hard.

I agree, Corbridge Junior Football Club could probably do with his help. They have struggled I think and some of younger teams have conceded a ridiculous amount of goals. They are crying out for 4-6-0 formation

This man has been given money upon money to build a decent team, now I know that we have a week until the transfer deadline finishes, where is this replacement for B£nt. He just summed it up on Tuesday when he played 6 effectively in Midfield and then starts bleating that the forwards are not taking their chances.....errr hello.

Lets get rid and move on.

End of Rant.

I've been off line (for holidays) since I went to the Mönchengladbach friendly - seen who's top of the Bundesliga right now? - and of course am upset at what is happening with my beloved team. I haven't seen any highlights of the matches in the Cup and League but my ominous feelings are being reinforced from reading the posts on here. I can only say my opinion goes along with those expressed on this thread.
I feel things are urgent after the Brighton fiasco but fear it is too late.
I have thought since about April that Bruce had to go as he is out of his depth at this level. He has brought us on but can not take us any higher. He just does not seem to have the tactics, the nous, the charisma, the intelligence to get the good players he has had under him for the past two years to perform up to (and certainly not beyond) their abilities.
As always, he has performed admirably in the transfer market getting some excellent players. We have a glaring need for a goalscorer and when this was the case in the past, he provided, with B£nt and Gyan. Outstanding! Now? What's different? The market? Not sure. Many posts here have talked of players available. Is it just that Bruce deep down doesn't feel we really need another striker? Can he really believe that? Was that the message from Tuesday?
As we know, he got it horribly wrong and I think his "tactics" (antics?) will not have gone unnoticed to prospective players. Who would want to come and play for someone who buys players and then doesn't use them or plays them in wrong positions? This is evident to us and I'm sure the message is going around the players network too. ("Hey, (name of friend playing for Sunderland), I've been contacted by Bruce to come and play for you. What do you think?" "Steer well clear, pal. Go and sign for a team that will play you, unless we want to pay crazy money for you!")
I honestly think we are beyond the point of no return with Bruce. If we can replace him today (six days before the deadline) with someone (O'Neill, Hughes, Holloway, A.N.Other?), we may have time to get the quality players we need AND get the players already here playing to their potential. (The players we have would not lose to Newcastle at home and Brighton away if they were playing to their potential.)
However, I know I'm being as delusional as Gaddafi if I think this is going to happen. We'll possibly get something at Swansea (and of course I hope we do) but it's all papering over cracks, running around blindly hoping for success rather than planning actively for it.)
Doom and gloom. Sadly, that's what I feel.

[On two other points, I was very saddened by Cest's decision to leave the board. Obviously, I agree with his take on Bruce but he was a positive element here, I thought, just as there are many (a majority of) positive elements on here that I don't agree with. Losing Cest, we've lost a bit of coulour.
I also want to say that I appreciate Chappaz's contribution to our board. I find his comments generally well thought out and above all respectful and do not warrant some of the treatment they get.]

I'm not a happy bunny but I certainly love coming on here and reading the threads. Only wish I could have the same smile on my face when the Lads are playing.

Just had a thought.....

Perhaps Bruce was making a statement to the Board by not playing his strikers v Brighton?

Not subtle or clever since we got beat, but could it be his way of demanding more striking power?

Lost seven of our last eight home fixtures. since the draw against the Skunks on 16th January we have lost every home game except one, with the only points coming against Wigan on 23rd April, and even they managed to score twice. What is more, in the defeats to Wolves, Fulham, and WBA nine goals were conceded. Overall in 2011 our home record is P11, W2, D1, L8, and one of those wins was on New Year's Day

He is a small club manager. Good when he has little to work with and it comes down to a siege mentality but when he has some cash to spend like at Leicester it was a disaster. Don't think he would be the answer and some of the stuff he comes out with is total bollocks.
I am withholding judgement on Bruce for at least 10 games. I was firmly in the Bruce In camp last year but now most certainly on the fence. If he was playing games with the board at Brighton as some have suggested he should send a refund cheque to the 1200 who went down as they had the piss taken out of them with that team selection.

You perhaps forgot to mention the horrendous injury problems we faced during this period...

Agreed RAW but at the end of the day they are ALL professional footballers and not to win a match at the SOL in that length of time was just not good enough (sorry 1 game). I was looking forward to the new season with the new look squad and after a very well earned point at Anfield I find myself thinking....here we go again.

Sunderlads well said!

I don’t totally buy into the injuries argument because other teams also had injury problems. Not forgetting a number of players brought in to strengthen the squad weren’t injured but still not involved i.e. the South American contingent, Kilgallon for starters. He had players out on loan which he could have recalled but didn’t. He sold key players without replacements being brought in. He even questioned his own training regime as to why so many players were being injured.

In addition the slump happened over two consecutive seasons not one. Lightening doesn’t strike twice in the same place just post a question on the Wigan and Birmingham forum and see what their response is about Bruce.

I am staggered after Tuesday’s debacle along with many others that certain individuals still have their heads buried deep in the sand.

As for last years top 10 finish (in a very weak Premiership) it was kindly gifted to us by Newcastle after they surrendered a three goal lead.

So the only reason we finished top ten last season was because it was a poor Premiership!<doh>...As I've said previously, there would be some of our fans who would look for negatives such as this even if we ever managed to win the league by winning every single game!
What you call 'burying head in sand', I would call 'looking at the bigger picture and not joining in a knee-jerk blood fest after a couple of iffy performances'.

I want want 'the special one' to manage SAFC and only Jose and Wenger as assistant coach will do me, give him £700 m to spend, get Messi, Ronaldo, Klose, Bent, Modric, Bale, Terry and extend the stadium to hold 98,001 to be the biggest stasdium in europe and i think i would be happy for the time being!.We could get Fergy in and have a huge atomic crystal (very acurate) clock in the east stand roof about 30 ft in diameter with an alarm going off at full time, and with an extra 9 mins for when we are losing.

Bigger picture & knee jerk blood fest reaction after a few iffy performances your having a laugh!

You still can’t explain most of my previous points, two alarming slumps over two seasons, continuous dire Derby performances, miserable cup performances, not replacing key players, continually playing players out of position, alarming team selection Tuesday being the prime example.

Oh sorry you have its down to a horrendous injury problem. Going off the rest of your threads that’s the only reason you ever give.

As for a weak Premiership I stand by claim especially when we finished 10th after some of football we played last season.

You will have to come up for air eventually.
