ruary 2018 (Updated 11:48am 8th February 2018) Sunderland football club have rebuffed claims that they turned down a Rolling Stones concert for the Stadium of Light. In a statement from the club they say a third-party agent approached them, not the band. And there was no offer, but a discussion around the possibility if certain dates would work. You can read the full statement from a Sunderland AFC spokesperson below: "SAFC was approached about the possibility of holding the concert, but the date proposed would not have allowed enough time to complete pitch renovations ahead of the 2018-19 season." "Both parties explored earlier dates, but were unfortunately unable to find a solution." The Stadium of Light last held a concert in 2016 when Beyonce performed her Formation Pitches are ****e in league one anyway
They could build the stage above the pitch, put it on rollers so everyone can see them. They should have had a mega concert with the who, ELO, supertramp, Genesis, Kate bush !, Olivier newton john ! as well, could have made about £40m over 5 concerts.
Headline reads very different to the first sentence. Typical media bollocks. Even if 1st party representatives did approach us I'd like to think we'd say '**** off you decrepit bastards, you're washed up'.
We should put some effort into making the stadium a potential , desirable, all year round concert venue. That way it'll have a use if we end up with no football club.
They don't turn a profit for the club. When we did them the government subsidized which meant profit for the club and economically the town benefited massively. Tories pulled the plug on the subsidies. They're just not possible anymore, we can thank our government for it.
Aye, indeed. Something else the ****s have ****ed up on. Another one to add to the list. Must be this austerity fella.
Aye austerity. Where most councils (I would guess ALL northern counties) suffer continual funding cuts, while Oxfordshire have just been awarded £1m from Central Govt Funds to sort out their potholes. Apparently their road surfaces have suffered through ice and snow this winter (and no other counties have !). Surely an extra little present for them from national funds. Maybe someone needs to tell the treasury that they need no longer suck up to Oxfordshire resident Mr Cameron, being as he is no longer the PM.
Oh the roads the rich thick toffs use to commute to parliament must be maintained so they don't mess up their tax payer funded luxury cars.
