Really? Including the live TV game against Northwich? I think the key area of challenge here is Elliott vs Hamer. For me, it's Hamer-time, not just because that's almost amusing, but he's signed for a reason, to be first choice, and the performance last night suggests he should be. Genuinely think he's the better option at this stage. Would also bring Green in, Waggy is the ultimate impact sub.
does anyone else just find it a massive relief going down to the valley and not seeing those two semedo and racon bastards staring at you
Completely agree Ponders, he was poor, misplaced every pass and was out-muscled every time he got the ball. I know we shouldn't expect too much from him as he's only 19 and signed from a pub-team, but he's been dubbed 'Charltons answer to Cesc Fabregas'.
I think his main position is actually left-wing (and he prefers to play right-wing) but CP tried him out in the centre during pre-season.
Irrelevant since I think his best position is wherever CP chooses to play him across the midfield. However, had that strike which hit the post and bar gone in, he would be hailed as a wunderkind rather than coming from a "pub team". He is a work in progress and from what I saw in pre season, he will do a very good job for us when on the field in league 1 this year. Don't reckon he had a bad game and reckon that he will be a good team player.
If I remember correctly Bover's stated best position was the Hayes role wasn't it? A deep striker? He needs a few hours in the Gym and a bit of confidence, that's all. After an iffy start at Welling he played well and was very creative.
Really? He did o.k, but he misjudged the flight of the ball pretty much every cross or deep ball. It wasn't a performance to push Elliot out and Sullivan still doesn't have a cause to start. Elliot stays until he's gone or abysmal. Greenhithe Red, welcome. You've made some very fair points, especially about Hughes who looked out of position throughout. Also that Waggy looks better as that impact sub we thought he was at the beginning. Interesting to read all the views on Hollands & Stephens. Sadly Scunny was my first game this season and I thought Stephens was superb for 60 minutes and would see Pritchard next to him, no disrespect to Hollands. But others see it the other way around, I don't know if that shows how good Stephens is as expectation on him has already been raised. Either way, those 3 have got to be made available in the 16. Alonso................wherever he may be, he may not be able to find a place in the team. Saturday Elliot Solly (just about, Francis was superb) Morrison Taylor Wiggins (similar, Evina excellent, fitness?) Green Hollands Stephens Jackson Hayes BWP Hamer Docherty Pritchard Wagstaff Euell p.s. that team is somewhere between what I'd like & expect
I'm puzzled about all the stick Ruben Bover is getting. He's not a left winger to skin people like Reidy, but then neither is JJ. I saw him make some excellent passes to keep the ball alive and a beautifully weighted one over the RB's head for Jason to run on to. Even more impressively when Evina went awol he dropped straight into the left back position. He hit the woodwork and had another headed off the line. Pretty good from my point of view and I'd be happier with him there if JJ picks up an injury than with Evina or Hughes or even Pritchard who I think has to play in the middle.
He did o.k, he's not pencilled to start in my mind, he's been signed to develop. Look at reality, his first team experience comes from Halesowen. I don't know why, but I thought he was a left winger by trade, I must have been wrong. But he is here to learn at this point, effectively a youth player. Evina was excellent, and yes Bover was disciplined and did some nice things, but similar to the Stephens criticism, that is the mark of the quality the side is showing this season for these kind of performances to be ranked as poor. The lad will be fine
I agree with some of that HB. I don't advocate a start for Bover but as cover for JJ I don't think he'd disgrace himself. I'm not as convinced about Evina. It seemed to me that he got out of position a few times and was also beaten a couple of times at the byline. He did remind me of a pre Blackpool Youga. I wonder if they'd give him some coaching?
It is interesting how we all view players differently. I didn't think Bover was really awful but I was expecting more. Maybe I am being harsh.
