Bids apparently are to be lodged by today with results of winners and losers being announced next week. I'm guessing Sky and BT will probably pick up all the "packages" of games on offer and not expecting any newbie to come in to steal one or more packages from them. When the figures are announced I guess "football's soul" will well and truly be lost.
No idea what's going to happen. But supposedly BT have lost money & subscribers since spending, with many customers complaining they should improve their network first. It's not quite raking it in for Sky either. I'm not convinced it's going to shoot up that much. The only way it might is if Amazon, Facebook Live or Google/YouTube bid for rights.
Plus from 2019 Sky and BT have agreed to merge their sports subscriptions as an attempt to fight against any potential new comers. I’d be surprised if there’s any of the major American tech companies involved.
Did hear that on average each PL game cost Sky in the region of £11.6M and BT approx £7M +.And that's under the current contract.
Analists reckoned around a 10%-15% increase with BT and Sky consolidating their positions and one newbie picking up one of the newer smaller sections of games. Netflix were being mooted as a bidder for the Saturday evening games - I'm not convinced. I wouldn't have thought it fitted with their target market or represented value for money to be honest. Given the amount being lost over this I'm a touch surprised it isn't plateauing totally.
Is it just UK TV or is it overseas as well? I would guess that's where the growth would come from. You'd think the UK market is fairly mature and certain foreign markets are there to be milked further?
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think the overseas is separate. The one being talked about atm is the £5bn UK one, overseas is a separate one worth £3bn currently.
https://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/11/...ights-to-premier-league-in-six-year-deal.html The US is on a 6 yr., $1 billion deal which expires in May 2022. This follows a 3 year, $250 million deal, so the price doubled.
No they predict it’s down to 9.3m a game, from 10.1m Still excellent news. Clubs will have to act on the stupid fees and wages.
Yep, something will have to happen because there's a lot less to go around. Transfer fees are nuts, wages worse and because the ****wits at the top let themselves be bent over by Chelski, Abu Dhabi City and Paris St Qatar, it's going to be infinitely more difficult to get it back in check. As always it'll take a while but there's a glimmer of hope that the bubble is bursting. Even better that Amazon & Netflix didn't bother, choosing instead to focus on outstanding content. This is the thing for me - people want excellent content and then the content delivery. With the league becoming a farce, the content just isn't very good anymore and is getting worse. The actual football on display among the "other 14" is ****. You have owners employing Moyes, Allardyce and Pardew. And there is not a mad rush from the next generation to support soulless clubs like Man City; kids are happier playing Overwatch, Player Unknown, GTA5 and getting their footy fix from FIFA. It's quite short termist.
Great news. The ****ing leaches and low talent weasels will be beelin. The clubs paying ****ing silly money to **** players will be ****ting it now. Dear Mike. Sell the **** up now!
Hardly a case of the bubble bursting. Sky held there nerve this time and didn't panic. BT upped their bid by something like 20%. So until 2023, Sky/BT will be paying a minimum of circa £9.2m per game. Clubs will be destitute, how will they survive?
Doesn’t look much different to me. Sky obviously felt they had overbid last time and BT upped their bid per match. Looking at bid prices looks more like a hint of collusion to me. With BT looking at other two packages still and overseas rights expected to rise looks as though it may end up similar to previous one. However it does look like it might have reached its peak now until a new player comes in. Hopefully the spiralling transfer fees and wages will now settle down. Ashley once again looks like a man with great foresight by refusing to get involved except as a seller.
