The outgoing chairman of the Police Federation, Steve White, told the Guardian the society was thwarting progress of women and those from black and ethnic backgrounds. (chief executive of the Freemasons) Dr Staples rejected those claims as "laughable". He told BBC Breakfast: "We're not a secretive society. Nepotism (and) corruption is not tolerated." He added that the handshake used by members during ceremonies is "not secret" but, when he was asked to demonstrate it to viewers of BBC Breakfast, he declined, saying he had "promised" not to. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-42986319
Surely the very fact that you are on here talking about them proves that they are not a secret society?
Imagine Dev joining the Masons It'd be like that episode of the Simpsons when Homer joins the Stonecutters and everyone leaves because he tried to make them do good. Only, in Dev's case, they'd leave because he argued with every **** and threatened them with violence.
The Masons played the Orange ludge in a charity football match the other week. The score? It's a secret.
As far as i'm aware prospective members are supposed to approach Masons if they wish to join, not the other way round. Happy to be proved wrong though.
Are you the sort of person that takes everything so literal? Saying there's no nepotism clearly means no more than normal. To not get that is a bit thick.
Why are you taking what I've said literally? I would have thought it crystal clear that what I said should be taken with a pinch of salt. Maybe I've touched a nerve.
Yeah, no. Trust me on this, at no point of me being on this site will you be able to "touch a nerve". What's happened here is we were having a debate, you had no rebuttal so used some cliched "get out of jail" comment.
I'm not a fan of the Masons. I have had to work alongside some truly awful and incompetent colleagues who were never reprimanded, disciplined or sacked because they were in the same lodge as the senior management. I've received the funny handshake from people within the industry, both in the civil service and commercial sectors. It is absolutely rife despite assertions it isn't. An example of the level of ignorance - one such dunce who was on the same pay scale as me couldn't read or write (I am not even joking, he was going to night school to do English classes even though he was English) and would demand to know why the local authority didn't insist on a White History month and why there wasn't a Men's Day or why men couldn't take time off once a month just because they didn't have periods. He was sh.it at his job but paid the same as me despite the fact that I'd got a degree and I'd even been advised he was promoted after I'd left. There are twats in all walks of life, I don't even exclude myself from this assertion, but The Masons create an un-level playing field where it is who you know and not what you know or are worth that counts. Wouldn't surprise me if there were some here on GC with their trouser leg rolled up right now.
