no it would not. Its not a good season.

TBH the CL is a nice bonus to keep us interested up to mid march but porto are no mugs.

If we get whatever in the league to gets us back in CL thats no more than a meh in the end. it cannot be more.

Next season we will have last seasons targets bought in for klopp so a new outlook is a must. We need 3/4 more players on top to change what we have seen this year.

No - after we got 4th last season, I expected better runs in the cups and to be 3rd and above.

All of this would have been more possible had we kept Coutinho (and Sturridge to some extent). Now, I’ll just be grateful with getting top 4.

Whilst I’m not arsed about the cups just yet, I want us to keep building a stronger team which will lead to better chances of winning silverware.

We’ve added Salah and VVD, and Keita will join in the summer. We’re skowly but surely building a quality team.

If we don’t lose anymore key players in the summer, and we add 2-3 real quality players (in addition to Keita), then I expect a real challenge.

IMO our showing thus far as been good, anything now is a bonus in cl. despite what some might say in it to win it is not really where its at with this comp.

If we made QF of CL and had at least a credible narrow loss then I'd be saying we far exceeded expectations. If we get an english side (even icty) in the LC then we could do anything.

Ideally we are able to hold off sides for 4th and we will have to see.

I do think we've the games agaisnt weaker sides to do it and if van dijk and salah are fit to play all the games great.

Can’t blame Klopp for FA Cup - we put out a very good team.

To not get out that CL group would have been failure, we were expected to progress. I still think second is achieveable but I also think we should be progressing to the next round in the CL too (Porto are no pushovers though)

He's the manager, of course he takes the blame just like he'd get the credit too. Buck stops with the manager.

No, but you're ignoring the fact that we finished top of our CL group and are still in it.

2nd/3rd and at least the next CL round is undeniable #progress

Man Utd still have to drop points against Chelsea, us, City, Arsenal, and Watford.

We will only drop points 2 more times this season.

The only cup we're left in is the CL, and what are our chances of lifting that? :)
We've had this discussion at length on here and we don't all agree (no surprise there). Perhaps it's an age thing, but I think I'm more realistic in my expectations than most. Getting back to the top will take some time, and a lot of luck with things falling into place.
For me, top 4 in 2 consecutive seasons would mean steady but slow progress. At our level CL football is crucial to any further progress, the Wenger Trophy would have to do but I still want us higher than that.
Unless you can afford to buy a team of worldies I think stability is key, so I'll back Klopp even though some of his decisions are baffling.

As for you, if you're resigned to mid-table then of course any pot is desirable, but surely you'd like to be consistently competing for the European places? League position is the only real measure of a team's consistency over the season.
Have to get rid of Fireman Sam first though.

Winning the EL and getting CL was a perfect target for Everton. Can't believe they threw it away this season and might not even have the chance next season.

I suppose it depends on what "the top" is defined as. If it is the title then without ever more money spent it seems increasingly unlikely. Leicester was a one off it seems to me and money talks especially over time where building a squad to compete is important. I don't think we are not trying in the domestic cups but squad depth gets shown up in these circumstances. We have no choice but to build slowly but we have seen that when try to do that we lose our better players as we raise our profile as a club. I don't know how we can stop that happening.

This is why I say we have to have CL football consistently. I don't think we should even try to compete for the really big star names, I think they tend to have too many ego problems, but we need to attract players of a high standard who are able to make that final step up.
I don't see that winning a domestic trophy will help at all in that regard.
As you say, keeping hold of them is a problem. I suppose it depends on the player and who comes in for them. We couldn't hold onto Suarez or Coutinho despite having CL, now that Salah is ripping up the league we'll have a huge fight on our hands keeping him.

I think right now 4th is the minimum (given we are out of the cups, unless we win CL <whistle>)

I wouldn’t say success but two CL finishes in 2 years is signs of progress where we’ve only been in twice in last 10 years?

Klopp needs to win win a trophy next year though, if we don’t then people will start asking questions.

In the whole of the season so far, we have consistently dropped points in the unlikeliest places and matches. I am not sure why you would predict only 2 more matches for that to happen (giving us 32 points out of 36) but yet the mancs would drop more points in more matches. :bandit:

I would be happy if we could get 3 points against the Saints. They looked really dangerous on their last match. One match at a time eh?
