Have you not tried your local Tesco? That's where I get my North Staffs Oatcakes from! In the bakery aisle.
Come on then admit it. Who actually put some thought in to their user-name? Mine is fairly self explanatory which always helps.
Peadar is my name (Peter) in Irish, and 1987 is the year in which I was born. Simples! please log in to view this image
Very clever indeed Peadar, just out of interest being Irish do you watch much hurling and gaelic football?
Not really. Dublin wouldn't be as much of a hurling or football stronghold as places down the country. I played at school, but once the choice was mine to make, it was soccerl all the way. Hurling is a very difficult sport, and gaah is a scrappy, horrible game! There's also a huge rift between the GAA and the Irish domestic football community, so once I started supporting a League of Ireland side, I wasn't going to be supporting the GAA any more!
I quite like both sports and often watch shinty on BBC Alba as I grew up around the Inverness area and it is one of the most traditional sports that Scotland has to offer. My auntie andd uncle used to live in Londonderry so I started following them since about 2003. I wasn't aware that they were having rifts with the League of Ireland, i'm not quite sure why they would either, GAA is an amateur sport and has been for many many years. Unless it's something to do with talent being stolen? Also, how are your mighty Bray Wanderers getting on?
I know, but the GAA is infested with small-minded IRA-supporting cultural nazis. They see any "foreign sports" as a threat to Ireland that must be destroyed. Hence you get things like this happening: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tallaght_Stadium#Planning_battle , or this: http://www.kerryman.ie/premium/news/pitch-battle-gaa-and-soccer-club-in-dispute-1693508.html The GAA are no friends to the game of association football, whose only crime was to enjoy growing popularity. We've retained most of our squad that stayed in the Premier Division iin epic circumstances last season (extra time in the relegation playoff, Monaghan score with a minute to go, Bray go straight up the other end and equalise, then win on penalties. This after being 15 points adrift of safety at one point mid-season!), so hopefully we'll be able to challenge for a mid-table place. Bray are renowned for bringing young players through the ranks, and playing attractive, attacking football, althoughthe teams tend to be lightweight, our supporters have a reputation for being quiet and our crowds are very small. It makes a very refreshing change from Stoke, who are different in almost every way!
Working nights i get the chance to read all the 606 comments but not actually join in!!!! Praise be to not606, a massive hello to all you fellow Stokies!!!!!! and up the mighty MIGHTYYY POTTTERRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSS
I wasn't aware that was happening in Ireland, it's a sport not a means of starting a battle between the two sports. It must say a lot when the GAA are having to plough one of the football pitches to stop them from playing, they need to realise that development in both sports can only be a good thing for the country itself. It's that is their plan of action then they may want to try a plan b as I think that is nothing short of horrible and disgusting. Glad to see that they weren't in the bottom half for the whole season, if they have the potential to reach a mid-tabled sport then that's something to build on for next season. I wasn't aware that they had relegation play-offs, in a sense it's a little bit like the Scottish Footbal League with a promotion and relegation play-offs. What are the prices like or is the low attendance just a fact of people not being interested in the sport?
I think the vast majority of GAA members are decent people, but unfortunately it's the nutters who are fanatical enough to climb to the top. I'd like to see a lot more cooperation between organisations, sharing fitness sessions, joint fundraisers, and using the same facilities. Unfortunately I never see that happening. Yeah, there are 10 teams in the Premier League, 12 in Division 1, bottom from the premier league is relagated automatically, top of the first goes up. Then 8th and 9th in the Prem play off, and the loser of that game faces the winner of 2nd v 3rd in Division 1. I suppose it keeps the season interesting for teams in mid-table, because they know they're not safe, even if they aren't in an automatic spot. It costs me €10 a game to watch Bray as a student, or unwaged person. Full price is €15. You get a season ticket to all 18 home league games for €99. Some clubs charge more, Bohemians charge you €20 to get into a big game. Bray's average attendance is usually under 1,000, with about 400-900 home supporters. Big games like Shamrock Rovers, you'd get close to a capacity 3,000, although two thirds of those would be away fans. Attendances in Ireland are low for a few reasons, but mainly it's an attitude problem with the Irish public. They will tie themselves in knots to justify supporting Man United or Celtic, or even Chelsea. It's hard for the League of Ireland to compete with the media machine that builds the "Big 4" up to be the be all and end all of football. The teams themselves are far too concerned with chasing the next title by spending unsustainable wages in a self-destructive arms race than actually investing in decent facilities, and proper promotion of the league. It's perfectly possible to follow both an English/Scottish and an Irish club, and rather than trying to compete head-on with English clubs, I think LOI clubs should really push the community/local angle to get people through the gates. I've always said that you could get 10,000 Corkmen to pay €20 to watch a Dubliner fail at anything, it can't be that hard to translate that sort of thing into decent attendances at League of Ireland games.
Hi Guys. I've joined (master of stating the bleeding obvious me ). Looking forward to the banter. Peader, I was going to offer you help with the French (lived there for 6 years with my job), but from what I can see I don't think you need it . Tarquil.
Vraiment?
