The Sanchez signing and Spurs defeat kicked off a chain of events that will see our season spiral out of control and into 5th place. But we'll still beat Huddersfield.
You really think that? Drop Lukaku and play a front 3 of Martial, Rashford and Sanchez we're smash everyone in the league.
There's no question Lukaku should be benched. No player should be seen to having a position his own, regardless. A front three of Martial, Rashford and Sanchez would be superb, can't disagree at all. You could have Pogba at the head of a midfield three behind, Matic and Herrera with him.
I really think it's a strong possibility. I'm worried Sanchez will take time to settle (it's tough mid-season) and that his presence will put Martial's nose out of joint. It has overtures of when Newcastle signed Asprilla in 1995-96 - super player but it disrupted the team prior to their collapse. Also that the defeat to Spurs following a not too good run of performances since December will knock confidence with tougher games to come. I agree with your selection but don't think that front line suits Jose's style of play or that he would drop Lukaku - it would reflect badly on him after paying £70 odd million.
That's an odd comparison imo - Asprilla was a record signing from Newcastle, from a completely different league. Sanchez has over three years of PL experience, and came on a free, so much less of a focus on him and less time needed to settle. More akin to Saha or Larsson imo - not the biggest name in the squad and more likely contribute to us winning something (i.e. the FA Cup) than sending us into a 'spiral' based on one defeat. It would reflect worse on him not dropping Lukaku - managers come in for far more criticism for persisting with an under performing player than dropping an expensive one when they deserve it.
Well at least he's willing to drop £89m Pogba when he deserves it. Just need him to do the same for Lukaku now...
Don't know why everyone's so against Lukaku. He's been alright considering how he's been depraved of good service. Look at Sanchez, lost count of how many times he's lost the ball...for no reason. Talk about style over substance, or immaturity, no sense of risk and reward. We have Martial and Rashers who can lose ball like that but also have a better work and team ethic.
Sanchez is going to do my head in with his twisting and turning then falling over, he play some very nice passes though.
good performance facing a team that parked the Bus completely McTominay was fantastic and solid with Matic Sanchez did very well but he annoyed me alot too tbh .. he fall down so easily .. I remember why I hated him in Arsenal bcz he was doing that all time
I'm not sure we got Sanchez on a free. He had 6 months to run on his contract and it was reported we paid Arsenal £20 million and something like £10 million in agent fees. But that's beside the point, I guess it was a bit of an odd comparison. I've no idea why I came up with an example from over 20 years ago, I must be getting old I guess I just fear that Sanchez could disrupt the team.
Is anyone worried about Pogba getting dropped for McTominay? The last time Mourinho did something similar with Hazard it didn't work out well.
Pogba deserved to be dropped for playing the worst match for united and also for going AWOL leaving Matic totally isolated against the Spurs midfield. But there is no way McTominay is a reasonable alternative to him. Let's hope he's learnt his lesson and that there is no further need for him to miss more matches. As the match itself, Huddersfield came to defend. They took a gamble and lost. Perfectly understandable but we deserved to win. A match we could have drawn last season.
4 goals in his last 17 PL games is not good enough I'm afraid. Atleast he contributed well today opening the scoring, but his contribution throughout the season has not been up to the level we need from our main striker.
Nope glad he got dropped today after the way he played in midweek. He needs to understand that his position in the side is not assured, especially if he isn't prepared to do any defending.
Well, swap for Micky, so effectively not a free. But given the relative quality of the two players, definitely a deal we got the better end of imo. Although as you say that does depend on him not disrupting the team / hampering performances more than Micky was doing.
He definitely showed a positive response when he came on yesterday as well. Rather have him playing well for half an hour than struggling for a whole game.
