this Banksy excitement is ridiculous , He is a stencilist and if we are calling him a graffiti or spray artist then he is a total dick . The etiquette of accepted over work is to go over with a bigger more complex piece , eg a simple TAG can be overed with a ****ty stencil . Next problem is territory , for everyone squirting love seed over this work doesnt see the work beneath it , a local artist from Hull no doubt (i accept he / she may be thrilled to have his work dissed by Banksy) but that doesnt lessen Banksys lack of thought. At the end of the day Banksy is a stencilist and isnt even the first nor the best , somehow middle england got a hard on over it and now councils fight landowners for rights . If Banksy wasnt a cock he would stencil on a large board and donate it to a youth club . *from an early 80s graffiti artist / vandal who's work is probably the oldest surviving aerosol filled piece in Hull
Banksy has always made me wonder what Rembrandt could have achieved with a stencil and an aerosol spray.
Don’t necessarily disagree I will bite though...what is the oldest surviving aerosol filled piece in Hull that you’re laying claim to?
Banksy isn’t a proper artist as he creates his art using stencils, is the same **** argument people used against Warhol, because he created his art using screen printing.
True olm, you've got to be a pretty good artist to create the stencil in the the first place. Unless he uses a computer, then he's a vandle ****
not sure if ur responding to me , but as its after my comment ill reiterate , i called him a stencilist and that if people consider him a spray artist then his actions are questionable , especially amongst aerosol artists . Therefor His work on the bridge has every right to be crossed out - tho i dont reckon for a second the person whitewashing it did if for purist reason , but merely to vandalise some Banksy work
Solvency, but he refused to move with the times so ended up living on other people's money and bankrupt.
It wasn’t just aimed at you, i’ve seen a lot of people over the past week dismissing his art on the basis that it’s made using stencils, particularly other graffiti artists. Some like his work, others don’t, which is fine, each to their own. I just think that dismissing it as not art just because it’s stencilled, or even worse just because it’s popular, is a weak argument.
how about folks flocking like sheep after someone stencilled some ****, takes as much talent as a tiger it's zero skill it's all about the name so **** banksy imagine actually joining a queue to see some stencil art on a bridge imagine that, what a **** you'd feel like a shepherd herding his sheep and it's all that's wrong with society i hope someone spray paints over it
for wanting some ****e stencil art spray painted over? like the 'actual' banksy did it it was obv one of his followers and hence why the 'name' should mean **** all it's zero skill imagine flocking to see some stencil art flocking to a name what loser actually stands in a queue to see a stencil? hardly Picasso or van gogh is he it's a ****ty bridge that's been like that for years stencil don't change it, sheep following for a 'banksy'
Art is a strange concept and subject, I worked in an art college and had seen some stuff, not in the college, that looked like someone had just thrown a tin of paint at a canvas. Then I saw someone do just that, with several different colours, all of the colours running into each other as they slowly ran all the way down the canvas. The only thing was that this particular person didn't think to put anything on the floor underneath the canvas to catch the paint drips.
You are a philistine Brady, has city of culture taught you nothing? Van Gogh, Matisse & Picasso were all criticized by previous art movements before acceptance. Jackson Pollock and Damian Hirst paint without brushes, why aren't stencils an art form also? I like it and I like the copy one of the girl with Dead Bod.
Art is that creative human endeavour which makes one think, question their values or illicits any emotional response upon the perceiver. Judging by the responses on this thread, Banksy's work is definitely art.
Reminds me of that episode of the Simpsons where Homer fails to construct his BBQ and ends up pouring cement over all of it and it becomes art.
