On their new player, for their record transfer fee. Then that pissed stained french manager has the the nerve to say. Competition in Europe's biggest leagues is being "destroyed" by clubs who have "huge financial power", says Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. Frenchman Wenger pointed to examples in France, Germany, England and Spain. Paris St-Germain are 11 points clear in Ligue 1, Bayern Munich have a 16-point advantage in the Bundesliga and Manchester City are 15 points ahead at the top of the Premier League. Wenger said it was clear that "unpredictability has gone down". He added: "When you look at the five big leagues in Europe, in December we already knew four champions. "That means something is not right in our game. The huge financial power of some clubs is basically destroying the competition."
I don't think he's wrong tbh, if the game allows richly backed clubs to spend spend spend with no regulation (ffp is a joke) then eventually you will see certain teams completely dominate their domestic comps until you get a situation where the lure of a club is not essentially the chance to win things but to earn a huge wage. Teams like man city and Chelsea before them have had periods where every other club becomes a feeder club to them, not because they have a great history or recent success but because they can and will pay 3 fold what the others can. I've no idea how you would go about levelling the playing field financially but the gap between the rich and poor clubs is getting worse.
But arsenal have also just forked out 56m. it's not like they are not part of the same problem. Liverpool the same. Let's not just blame city and chelsea.
The thing not mentioned is how their buying power can disrupt other teams indirectly - we were in great form prior to Everton and I was pretty confident that we would get a result - by the time we kicked off I was nearly as certain that we wouldn't ... we now have our star man sulking like a big kid and apparent discord in the rest of te team ... just because City had the clout to 'test the water' with an 'audacious bid' ...
It just seems strange that the arsenal manager is complaining, when they are part of the problem and not the solution. People keep complaining about City and Chelsea, yet i see no difference with Utd, Liverpool or Arsenal.
Arsenal have earned that money, as have we, the chavs and city have been bank rolled into stardom. There's a massive difference. But I get your point. But mine still stands, the only way to keep up with the top clubs in the current situation is to spend. So either the system needs to change or as I said before we will have a situation where all clubs in the world become the feeder clubs to a select few. It's **** but unless transfer caps and wage caps and whatever else is needed to make it more competitive then it will get worse.
All been bank rolled with the possible exception of Utd. City spend money, Arsenal spend money, Wenger moans about others spending money. Perhaps if he wasn't so ****, he wouldn't be moaning.
In fairness, as much as I can't stand the whinging scrote, they only spent the money the made through players they sold this window. I'd get his point if Arsenal were doing well and not losing to teams they should be beating though. If you have a squad like he has and are closer to the bottom of the league than the top I think you should be looking a little closer to home.
There are different levels, like a transfer food chain. City/Utd/Chelsea can afford to buy from Liverpool/Arsenal/Spurs just like Real and Barca can buy from them. In turn Arsenal/Spurs can buy from any other PL team or from virtually any team abroad. The rest of the PL can buy from any of the football league clubs and most of the teams abroad who are much bigger (players leaving CL football with someone like Porto to join Stoke for example). Liverpool are just ******s and buy anyone who scores against them at Anfield who plays for Saints. So yeah he has a point, but football hasn't been properly competitive for years due to money. It used to be a closed shop to 4/5 teams, now that number has dropped to 3.
He does have a point to a certain degree - just look at the 4 out of 5 leagues, and it's generally the biggest spending team at the top - and walking the league Sure he just spent £56m on 1 player, but only 1 player. The likes of City, PSG etc can spend the same amount each on players in one window.
Roman hasn't been bankrolling us for at least 7 years. Why do you think we are signing players like Ross Barkley and Danny ****ing Drinkwater? The only "audacious" purchase we have made since 2011 was Morata.
I agree you don't spend like you used to, it's probably the two Manchester clubs at the moment from England, my comparison between Chelsea and city was that it was because of the new owner/s who came in and spent massively and at a pace never seen before in this league for a number of years so that they could reach the heights they're at now. Yous did that to get on a level with arsenal and utd, city are doing the same. And they will carry on spending as relentlessly as Roman and Chelsea did in their pursuit of the cl after cementing a top place domestically. Another club could very well be bought by another sugar daddy or oil rich family and do the same again so where and how does it stop I've no idea.
From from the summer of 2016 to now Arsenal have spent over £200m. This is on Abamiyang (excuse spelling) £56m, Lacazette £52m, Xhaka £36m, Mustafi £32m, plus others. £200m in 18 months including 2 players over £50m hardly constitutes them being paupers.
How to win friends and influence people.. chapter 1.. ”Greet an old friend in a welcoming way, but resist the temptation to call him a moaning ****”.
