The time to invest and build is when you are successful and your revenue is high, it's unlikely that we will be in the top 20 richest clubs in the World again for a very long time if we are relegated this season.

Have you forgotten the master plan? Maybe to do with bringing in a couple of Dutch coaches, closing the corners of SMS on match days and then waiting for administration. I don't think that's been tried before.

If you read the article 67m on those figures breaks even there or abouts.

Vvd would not have been a high earner in those figures as he hadn't received his extension yet. You also missed Gabbiadini.

Extensions will be the main cause of the increase along buying more players than we are selling.

Clubs around us who have just joined the league will have way more surplus due to having championship level expenditure with a PL TV income. Meaning they can put tv money on transfers rather than wage debts.

Top clubs have sugar daddy owners who are taking on mountains of debt plus huge commercial income.

Basically we are paying a lot of money for a lot of average players which is why we are in the situation we are in.

Giving extensions and pay rises to the likes of Long/Davis/Forster have hit us pretty hard financially. All decent players at the time, but with a little foresight extending them was never a good idea (especially Forster who got one a year after signing a contract and after having a pretty **** season).

The majority of our transfers are from Europe, so we don't pay VAT. I can think of VVD, Redmond and Long in recent years that are significant purchase within the UK.
Agent Fees we are notoriously strict on, but say they account for 10% of our transfer fees - that's £28m.
I'm struggling to think of us selling a big player that hadn't requested a move, maybe Pelle, so that 10% payoff isn't really applicable for us.

Fair point about VVD's contract. I missed Gabbiadini, but we'd lost Pelle, Wanyama, Mane and others the window window before. Hojbjerg, Redmond & Boufal came in that window to replace them but I can only see Boufal earning more than any of those that we'd sold. So again without knowing exact figures I'd say our wage bill wasn't really increased that much by signing those players .

Clubs new to the league have lower expenses, but they've also not received their PL money yet - or not all of it at least as it comes throughout the season. Then they get their nice chunk at the end of their first season depending on their league position. That's why Cortese took that loan out in our first season, to cover cash flow issues while we strengthened the squad.

We're not trying to compete with sugar daddies, there's very few of those in reality. Premier League clubs are just all cash rich, we're pretending we aren't.

I agree 100% with your last sentence, Davis, Long, Forster & Redmond are costing us the best part of £250k per week in wages.

I think VvD is the only player who put in a transfer request. might be a few othets ive forgotten, Mane didn't, Jay Rod didn't, i dont think wanyama did. most players can force a transfer without putting in an request. At least with us. There's also the 5% premier league levee mention in the article.

Money for players is paid for and received in installments, not upfront. And from my understanding you usually budget based on the money you expect to receive, not what you've got.

And even if you think those players aren't adding to the wage bill, -and we have brought in more players than weve sold- the extensions the likes of forster, virgil, bertrand etc received certainly are by a significant amount.

Knowing Saints fans’ luck at the moment, we’d probably end up sniffing the Viagra and swallowing the coke, getting thrown out the club for assaulting the hooker with a nose like Pinocchio, whilst our arses are wriggling the night away.

Can't see what donkeys have to do with it. Unless this is a veiled reference to the hooker story ...
