In the Chinese "All you can eat buffet" KL sits in the VIP section on one of the Chesterfield settees sitting next to her on the other side of the room is Gao.
KL is especially disturbed tonight worrying about another visit in her dreams from her father holding a cane. It reminds her of being a small child when she had been naughty, just a guilty conscious she thinks. She knows she has ruined her fathers legacy by selling the club to that corrupt little businessman but she needed the money, right? She consoles herself by ordering her third portion of dim sum dumplings.
Gao takes a phone call from one of his minions, he's worried, it's probably one of the Yao brothers wanting to know when the interest is going to be paid on one of his many loans. He doesn't want to mess with the Yao brothers, they're heavy duty. And anyway they keep KL happy.
Gao Minions sit in the backroom, the clacking of abacuses is quite deafening, his bean counters consider the financial implications of relegation and it's pro's and con's. Two are arguing violently at the back shouting back and forth about the sell on cost of Steve Davis, "£40m" he shouts "You ****ing crazy" "No, must be typo." The argument is settled when they realise the sell on price is £4 quid.
Steve Davis sits at home picking his nose. he pulls out an exceptionally big one. pops it in his mouth and eats it, thinking "mmmhhh chewy!"
Guido sits in his hotel room in Ocean village. "WTF have I done" starring soulfully out of the window over a grey dismal skyline. That bastard Les Reed has completely mugged me off! He consoles himself with the get out clause in his contract saying he must be released if Saints are relegated. Only a few months he thinks to himself!
Les Reed and RK are sitting in one of the posh suites in the Harbour Hotel. Two glamorous Eastern European prostitutes dance seductively in front of them. "Not the usual crackheads from Empress road for us tonight" Reed gloats happy in the knowledge he has done his masters bidding well and a big fat bonus is heading his way! Dipping his big fat paws into the KFC bargain bucket he thinks how yet again he's managed to mug several people off including the Saints fans! There was never a chance that Promes was gonna sign during this window. maybe in the summer if Saints stayed up but the board need to hedge their bets with relegation looming. No big spending! Les has excelled himself yet again!
RK sits watching Svetlana dance provocatively in front of him, wondering if the dodgy Viagra Les has sold him is even going to work. He really must concentrate on the PR piece he's writing saying how everything is under control and we are doing all right for a small club and that we trust MP2. He glances over at Les and thinks he definitely doesn't want sloppy seconds especially with those big greasy paws!
MP2 sits in St Marys in his lowly light office. well actually cleaners cupboard. Frantically scribbling notes on formations and players with a pencil that is worn down to the nib, he reminisces how easy it was at Independiente . Sheets of A4 paper with illegible crossed out lines lie at his feet.
"Oh please lord give good ole Shelly Levene just one break!" MP2 is in Psychosis and hes become delusional, thinking he's really Frankie Dettori.

I've given up with the whole sorry affair but how far from the truth am I ?

Very interesting. I never bought the idea that you get in 75 million and can then spend the same sum on players, but I missed a few things mentioned in that article. It is important that fans realise what a commitment teams take on when buying a player. I remember Kreuger saying that buying two players for the price of one also means you have 2 wages to pay, so can cost you more. Nice to know that there is a sizable injection into the Exchequer from these highly paid players....especially tasty if they are bought with foreign money. What it does tell us is life is never simple.

Spot on, other teams like Bournemouth are investing their PL tv money on players, we are recycling income from transfers.

We had the 18th highest revenue in the World in the latest richest clubs list (2 places above Everton!), we are not investing in our squad proportionally to other clubs of our size in the PL.

If you had read my post properly you could clearly see that Les Reed and Ralph do a fair junk of the TV money on Hookers Coke and Viagra!

Yes it does? Using their maths it shows that for every £10m of money spent on a transfer you're spending an extra few mill in taxes then the same amount again the amount in wages and other contributions that would come out of the prem money. so for £50m of transfers like we were going for this window you're likely paying the full £75m we received as the basic cost of the transfer then a further £50m in wages + contributions ect over the length of the contract which will come out of the prem money. and of course the other 24+ players in the team also have those wages and contributions over the length of their contract which will also be coming out of the prem money. + staff wages and other costs and it all starts to add up.

We certainly still have a surplus, especially since we missed out on Promes, i'm not denying that, just not as much as many people think.

Coke and Viagra is a dangerous mix, but throw in some hookers and it is worth the risk

How does it explain the Prem money when we made £127m last year? When other clubs around our size aren't selling each season like we do. As Saints Alive said, most if not all our signings are covered by our sells. The " we pay for wages too" is bullshit. You don't pay for all the wages in one year, it is spread over. We are like one of the only clubs that do stuff like this and it is showing

It is either that we are sat on large pots of money, or that every other club is spending way beyond their means. If it is the second one then we are ****ed as being prudent in football is a quick way to fall down the league and out of it. the most successful way to stay competitive is to spend. Spending big doesn't guarantee success but it is the closest thing you will get in football.

So as i just said the signing fee's are but all the wages and periodic costs aren't , and last accounts show wages alone take up £86m per year for 15/16, which will come out of the tv money and that obviously will have gone up.

Not by much, if at all. Seeing as we sold our highest earner. Like we did when we sold Fonte as well

By alot, seeing as we bought multiple record signings and paid for van dijk for half of the year and also bought another record signing for the rest of the year.

edit: and we're missing out 16/17.

We will see. As said above it is either other teams are spending their way into trouble or we have **** loads of cash lying around. Either way it isn't a good look and the turn over of players is another reason why we are in relegation

Goes back to my point about NC before. Of course he was exceptionally well paid, but his motivator was the success of the club, not personal financial gain.

This lot seem to be taking the line of “see how much we can earn, whilst doing the bare minimum with the club”.

Since 14/15 we have spent £287m on players
Since 14/15 we have sold £354.08m of players

    That's a net income of over £67m.

I'd be amazed if any other club around us has (had) that kind of surplus to play with, yet it always seems to be us that are pleading poverty. Of course there's more to those figures, with agent fees, bonuses, VAT etc but every club has those to deal with.

Our broadcasting revenue from 15/16 have increased by around 50% along with everyone else in the PL, our revenues will be around or above the £200m in the next set of accounts. Also, the £127m figure posted on the Deloitte League doesn't include transfer income - which we are likely to have more incoming than any other team around us. Our £86m wage bill will include players like VVD, Fonte & Jay Rod who were all amongst the highest earners, Hoedt, Lemina & Carrillo will probably offset them three - so I can't see how you seem to think there's no room to play with?
