Which club do ou prefer? Some people i see are supporting Udinese tonight. i am supporting arsenal as i like them as a club and how they go about their football. Where as if it was spurs i would be supporting Udinesse as i HATE harry redknapp. And also if it was man utd..
Can we have a don't care option, for those who believe that every other football club exist only so that Saints have teams to play against..? Ta.
don't like any of them but if they are playing non English then I support the English. Even if it means Harry wins. Of them all I prefer Man Utd because whilst I hate most of these so called 'bigger than yow' clubs Man Utd play great fast paced attacking football, non stop pressure, always going forward and very little side to side stuff. Arsenal play for 50 passes side to side in the midfield without doing anything like Barcelona. Yes pretty goals but boring waiting for them to happen. Tottenham try to be Arsenal. Andy
hate wenger who always has something to moan at, redknapp is a no go and pompey are pompey. i quite like how man u have bought in young english talent
I've chosen Pompey. I'm one of the small breed who dislike them but hope they do okay. I would rather support Pompey than one of the others as they are a local team. I will even admit I wanted KPB to score the penalty the FA Cup final against Chelsea. Don't get me wrong, I am Saints through and through, but I don't see the point in 'hating' them.
Always support English teams in Europe. Portsmouth might test me a bit, but probably have to wait a while to find out. Thanks littledinosaurLuke, we're fond of Adkins ourselves. Mustn't get ahead of ourselves about the EPL (but secretly hoping).
I hate Man United and everyone associated with them. I don't even know why, and it is certainly nothing to do with them winning so much or being better than us because then I would be a very hateful person especially in recent years.
I agree, I can't believe there's at least 3 votes for Portsmouth on a Southampton board! What is the world coming to?!...
Actually **** it I do know why. This isn't the case for all fans of course and I apologise to the exceptions, but Man United fans to me seem half-hearted and limp-wristed in their support like they chose Man United becasue they knew it would be an easy ride. I have mates who 'support' Man United but on say a Thursday it will be: "So who do you play this weekend then?" "Oh I haven't checked yet" There are more people in my work with Man United mugs and ****ing mouse mats than people without ffs, hemorrhaging paper gossip and mouthing off about a drab, routine win. It doesn't seem to matter to them as much, like it is too easy. Now before anyone takes exception to this, not all fans behave this way. I have a friend with two season tickets for Old Trafford for example. Also I'm sure there are people like this supporting every team, but I notice it more from Man United. GO AND WATCH YOUR TEAM instead of going to the pub in a Man United shirt week in week out so you can come in and impress your fickle mates.
Has to be Arsenal for me. Hate the our fishy friends from down the road, hate Redkrapp and hate Man United with an absolute passion (not even sure if I have a reason but I hate Rooney, Nani, Giggs, Ronaldo, Cantona etc.) That leaves Arsenal who do play some beautiful football and try to give kids a go whenever possible (yes, it's 'usually' our kids but still)
I would always support the british club in europe, even one that stinks of fish. But I'm not sure p*rtsmouth counts as part of the UK, so if they ever end up playing in europe I'd probably be cheering for the team of Albanian bus drivers and postmen rather than p*rtsmouth (or pikey island fc, to give them there proper name).
Arsenal play the game how it should be played. Wenger has been there too long perhaps and gets more grumpy every year but I still love watching them play. Tottenham have Gareth Bale which is the only good point about them. United exist solely to be hated. Portsmouth are too crap to really hate now that their failed attempt to buy success has run its course. I still dislike them though because they have some of the most vitriolic fans around.
I know it's completely old fashioned and out-dated of me, but when I talk to one of my customers, and the conversation might stray into football, I assume they will be Saints fans, if we are in Southampton. My look of feigned surprise, if they say ManU, Chelsea, Arsenal [I'm hearing Man City now too] really gets them off balance, so we very quickly return to the important business. If they say Saints, the conversation can get rather extended. Incidentally, I was in The Turfcutters Arms, in the New Forest, the other week. On the wall, next to the bar, is a picture of Sunderland's Stadium of Light. I looked at it quizzically, jokingly announcing that I'd never seen a realistic portrayal of St Marys if it was ever to be enlarged. The landlord said [obviously], No, that's Sunderland. I suppose you're a Saints fan..? I said, with a grin, This is the New Forest, Southampton is just a few miles away. It's my hometown. Would I be anything else..? No, the landlord, nor any of his family, came from Sunderland or the North-East. He just liked the picture. BTW, nice pub. What I'm saying is, if I was born in Port Isaac, Cornwall [that would have been nice], or somewhere else fairly obscure, that team, or the nearest, would be my team. It isn't a question of choice.
That should be Truro City! I'm the same; Southampton is my local team. I was born in Southampton and I live in Southampton, it's as simple as that.
You cannot choose where you are born but you can choose your football team. I was 12 when I decided not to support Leicester and to the amusement of my family I chose Southampton. It's a long story as to why Southampton so I won't go into it here but I did not choose them because they were winning everything - it was 1974 and we were relegated!! I understand people move away from where their football team is and I understand people who choose a team that is not local to where they are from. I have always tried to live as close to Southampton as possible though. It determined my university and it determined my current job. What annoys me about the top four are the number of armchair fans they have who always spout on about how wonderful their team is when all they have done is watched them on TV and make no effort at all to go to see a live game.
Yep. I could add one condition to that. If a person moves from their hometown, then the club where they live could be selected as their new team to support. For example, I have lived in Southampton, and for extended periods in my life in New Zealand, and in the Kent Wield, back in the UK. I looked out for the local football and cricket teams while I lived there, but I always had Saints in my heart. I don't bother with second teams, though I do have a soft spot for the teams where I've lived, and I have the faintest interest in Italian teams, simply because I'm half Italian. That's it. I'm not remotely interested in any other football team [my Leyton Orient post was about the cause, not the club], I neither like or dislike other clubs. To me, they exist purely to play Saints one day. To put it bluntly, if I was sat in a pub, and they had the Champions League final on the TV in the corner, with for example, ManU and/or Arsenal playing, I wouldn't even turn my head to look, In fact, I'd probably get up and leave and go to a pub where I could talk easier. I don't think I can be more clear about it.
