He'll be 30 by the time his loan period ends. I can't see a permanent deal if I'm honest, regardless of whether or not Ashley is still here in the summer. He just doesn't fit into the Ashley model and I can't see Leicester taking less than £15m for him given that they paid £28m, for him and his contract isn't up until 2021. Chelsea are just about to pay £18m for Giroud who's nearly 32 but their owner doesn't give a **** about money cos he has a seemingly endless supply of the stuff. MA is exactly the opposite unfortunately for us.
And with that glowing assessment from the Leicester fans I'm off to drink myself stupid for the evening... Sounds like the ideal replacement for Mitrovic And someone though he had a yard of pace about him
Luke EdwardsVerified account@LukeEdwardsTele 2h2 hours ago Vaguely interesting point, but Slimani was the striker Benitez told us he wanted before the transfer window opened but didn’t think he could get him back then so he’ll be very happy with him signing today #nufc
Big thanks to Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley then. It will have been a decent window if we sign keeper he wanted, Kenedy who we know he wanted and his first choice striker. If we'd known that prior to January the fans would be happy. I have a feeling now though they've spent too much time getting worked up over the last few days to realise it. I am sure the focus will be how we've loaned out more than we've signed, spent no money, etc etc.
Or you could listen to these Leicester fans instead and feel a bit happier: LCFC Family@LCFCFamily 4h4 hours ago If #nufc play to #Slimani strengths he will score goals for them Jamie@jamieestenning 6h6 hours ago Thing with Slimani is he can be a good player if he puts the effort in and if Benitez can get the best out of him they’ve got a good player on their hands #lcfc #nufc Gavin Hugill@gav_26 6h6 hours ago Letting Slimani go is idiotic #lcfc #nufc George Ball@GeorgeBall95 3h3 hours ago 15 league starts for Slimani at #lcfc: 7 non-pen goals + 5 assists. That's a good return by anyone's measure. #nufc are getting a good player who just didn't quite fit the team.
Mark DouglasVerified account@MsiDouglas 12m12 minutes ago Understand NUFC owner Mike Ashley chartered his private jet to get @slimaniislam to Newcastle for his medical.
We dont play to his strengths no doubt about it. We play fast football and want movement from the front line with Mahrez sliding balls in behind. Slimani wants crosses into the box Most of Slimani’s goals have come from Albrighton crossing the ball If you supply him with cross he will score goals. If you want him to link play up and score goals with his feet and run in behine then he wont do that well
Don’t know if you watch MOTD or anything but Gayle has wasted 3 golden headers recently, two in a crucial home game against Swansea that ended 0-0 so I think Slimani should get some service. It’s for this reason that he was my top target this window.
I saw him playing for Sporting a few times and he looked pretty decent to me and fairly quick If he didn't work for you, so be it - doesn't mean he's a bad player. Just not a good fit for your set up - these things happen to every club
Craig HopeVerified account@CraigHope_DM 2h2 hours ago I'm told the thigh injury picked up by Islam Slimani this week is not as serious as first reported & there is outside chance he could make NUFC bench at Crystal Palace this weekend, although home match v Man Utd a week Sunday more likely.
Yep. You couldn't get a worse ****ing clown running any business than Lee ****ing Charnley. What a charlatan load of ****.
Or is that what we are to be told, when in actual fact the real reason is coz mitrovic deal has fallen through?
Mitro will be well motivated if he's only here because Slimani didn't arrive. Well played NUFC, well played
