A blind man could see that we needed a new striker in this window. Yes January prices and availability are a joke when looking in the UK. But lets concentrate on the UK market for this post. We inquired about Martin, Ullua, Roberts, Marriot, Hugill, Grabban, Afobe and a couple more. All were beyond either the price we valued them at, was willing to pay or would break our wage structure. Marriot would have been a gamble at £7m for a league 1 player but has proved this season there is something about him. Yes a gamble but maybe one worth taking, so it was price and not wages for him. Ullua wanted Prem football so gone back to Brighton Martin is trouble and on way too much money. Grabban a natural scorer at this level for years, but wages the problem. same with Afobe from the same Prem team on prem wages. Either of these 2 players was worth breaking the wage structure for. Hugill has never scored loads of goals and for the money Preston wanted for him would have been a massive gamble. Ty Roberts is a strange one for me, because he's a 19yo kid with a poor scoring record. Dont know anything about him but WBA obviously think a lot about him, but when they signed Sturridge it meant no chance for Roberts breaking through. If media is to be believed continental top clubs like Milan were chasing him, why? He averages a goal every 3.3 games but has only played lower league level. This guy is for our first team not the U23s or he wouldn't have come. January strikers need to have an impact immediately or its money wasted, and this move is a gamble I fear wont work. I hope it does but can see him coming into his own next season, but next season we have: Stokes Siddiki Balboa Clarke Sarkic Temenuzhkov Dalby Plus Wilks who is also a 19yo striker but has a worst scoring record than Roberts at a goal every 6 games. But these are young kids so stats dont really mean anything. Is this Roberts signing a good move?
Think Roberts will be used as an impact sub this season. We've spent £8.5 million this window and I am happy with what we have done.
People said we needed a striker, a strong midfielder and a good left back in January. We signed a striker, a strong midfielder and a good left back in January. Bit of positivity required all round I think. Players will be filtering back from suspension shortly, we'll be better than we have been lately. Tough run of games coming up though, starting with Cardiff.
After reading some of the comments dro WBA fans, local peess videos and Walsall fans, You have to say this kid has osmething about him. His interview today was also worth watching as the kid seems to be sound and great attitude. Hope he scores quickly at Cradiff As Davy says we all knew what we wanted and Radz has delivered, even though we signed Lonegran again. The only question about the signings will be young Ty because of his age, but he seems sure of himself bring it on
you don't seem keen on this one,,, Ty Roberts is a strange one for me, because he's a 19yo kid with a poor scoring record So which one did you get that you wanted ?
His great grandad said he's great, but don't take my word for it ask his great grandad yourself, should be easy enough I think you just signed him.
Yes he was when my grandad was a lad,he's fookin older than you and there's not many you can say that about.
yes Leeds have a reputation for wanting young boys do you still have cameras in the toilets ask Jimmy
Now you know Jimmy is a dad to half of London don't you, from his TOTPs days long white hair that could be put in a pony tail.
So... Roberts to Leeds, Grabban to Villa, Madine to Cardiff, Martin to Reading on loan. Striker day alright, big money, but no one willing to take a 6m punt on Marriot it would seem. Right call Orta? Discuss.
