I would be much happier if he went to Rangers on loan with an option for another loan or fee in the Summer.
If he turns out anywhere near as good as expected then he will go straight back to England for a hefty fee before he hits 21 years old anyway .
No point spending money on an academy in an attempt to create first team players and generate revenue if after 6 years we let them leave for free.

I know everyone on here who has seen him play rates him highly but it looks like its could be a case again of a player wanting to leave so the club allowing him to go. Not sure on his contract situ but if as said we have a high sell on clause that is probably at the expense of a fee now. probably a good thing in the long run if he fulfils his promise.
It is baffeling from our clubs perspective to let a bright young thing go like that, but I'm sure there are reasons that we are not and may never be party to.

    Have we sold Maddison yet?

    bah!

I just had to go out for a brisk walk to calm down re the sale of Middleton and came back to see this rumour on 'Archies' page - "Just heard a rumour that Maddison will be sold to Liverpool today, for 25 million, with a loan back clause, until the end of the season."
I'd be fairly happy with that if it happens and we'll probably blow almost 50% of it and sign Marriott - it's the Norwich WAY!!!! <getscoatemoji>

See my post above and I'm sure Martin played the role of conspirator in persuading him to move (they were buddies when they went off to play for Scotland) and as you say General (and DH), we couldn't force him to stay. I'm pretty sure he was on contract until the end of 2019.
IMO, he COULD be a better player than JM and he is pretty solidly built, so he tends to ride a lot of the tackles where JM goes down!! #youhearditherefirst

If we sell Maddisson we won't get anywhere near £25m and we certainly wouldn't spend half of it on 1 player.
It would be a derisory £1.5m bid that gets knocked back at 1145pm.
On the plus side I do remember us signing Maddisson at the death when nobody knew who he was and loaned back to Cov

Even if it leaves us short of a third striker, I'd take that! Amazed the club haven't given Farke has criticised him lately, and his impact has been minimal. He's not first or possibly even second choice in any position.

He's a winger/striker that can't cross or score that we got for free , If we get £2m that would cover the cost of the new Germans we just signed I presume.

On the strength of his reputation as a player at Barnsley, the fee I would say is OK, for his form with us, its bloomin brilliant, I'd bite their hands off for £2m, imagine how many Germans we could buy for that! Except with a UK qualified player in Watkins going we wouldn't half be short of options for the matchday squad. If we had to replace with a British player of has pedigree £2m won't cut it, so inspite of his lacking performances so far I don't see how we could improve on him in a practical way for our squad. His versatility adds to that sentiment so I probably on balance would support keeping him at least til the summer and then have planned his replacement.

    Bah!

2 mil for Watkins would be great business. Would rather have kept Jerome. Watkins has offered nothing so far for us.

We probably could get some more Germans in on top of what we have!

From the Schnitzel Fokke Leaegen (South).

The way I see it is that we know what potential he has but would not get a realistic price for him, letting him go for free with a substantial sell on clause gives us a better chance of getting decent cash for him.

I very much doubt that Middleton's move is based on footballing reasons alone.

Agreed FML, but Jerome wanted out, as did Pritchard.
Just seen this from DH6 -

HITC (always a reliable source) reporting that the Cherries are interested in Zimmerman !

That's be a bad move for us if true - Zimmerrman, after an uncertain start, has been an absolute colossus in recent games. I know we have Raggett as cover now but I, for one, would prefer him to stay.

As I say, rumours via HITC, so more than likely it could be a load of b+ll@*ks...........

Apparently Luton have turned down a £300k bid from us for a young defender. Daily Mail as "source"...

Akin Famewo. 19 year old CB with just 3 league appearances for Luton this season. Quite possibly out of contract this summer. If there's any truth in it, he'll be one for the future or simply just an opportunistic poaching of a young player on a short contact.

Luton were talking about loaning him out earlier in the window, but equally described him as someone whose playing style is more suited to the higher leagues than the physical nature of league 2.
