Nothing to do with money for me. Always want my club to finish as high as possible. We can't catch Man City but we can be best of the rest.

Plus fourth means qualifying games so we want a minimum of third, not fourth.

I'd happily finish 17th for a CL win mind ;)

Not entirely true though is it. Bragging rights for finishing above United would be nice.
2nd may be more appealing for transfers.
It may give the team a boost going into next season that they are better than their rivals and are closest to challenging for that top spot etc

Yeah, on face of it, bar a few million, the physical rewards aren't much dfferent, but mentally you don't know what difference it would make. Finishing 2nd, in that aspect is never going to be worse than finishing rd or 4th,

Have you seen Liverpool play when they have a margin for error?

I want to finish as high as can, the money is just a byproduct.
The only time the league position can come into question this season is if the CL takes on greater significance and we need to rest players.
As CL win would yeild place for next season regardless
So totally agree with zanjihno on this one

Couldn’t give a **** about the spurs utd result personally- there is a swing every game week!

We did our job tonight, can just sit back and enjoy one or both or them dropping points

Honestly I wonder whether some of you can work out risks and odds. Just like fighting relegation , you have to put as much distance as possible from that last relegation spot.

No one can argue with your points that finishing 2nd and above the mancs would be better than finshing third or fourth. And that we should strive to get the highest place possible as well as a CL place.

But that is not the point of the argument. We are trying to establish which outcome would be better for the club: 1) a Spurs win 2) a draw 3) a Mancs win.

IF our ultimate objective is to finish above the mancs and/or finishing second, then we want the mancs to lose points against any team (Spurs or Arsenal) and therefore to lose tomorrow.

IF our objective is to secure that 4th place, then the logical thing is to wish the 5th place team to lose ground. And that means for spurs to lose tomorrow. The more they lose ground the more our 4th place becomes secure. And it does not mean we have to give up on 2nd place because beating the mancs ourselves will reel them in too.

    A no brainer surely.

Or, like I say when all the top 6 play each other (bar City this year). A draw... both teams drop points <ok>

The no brainer is you want the teams above you to drop maximum points, unless you believe you're already in a #falseposition and are #desperate for other teams to help you cling onto it.

It means you have a margin for error and i thought you were a maths genius.

It means less pressure on your players as a slip up wont involve you falling out of 4th and if you make the semi finals of the cl or finals you can rest your players if you have already secured 4th.

@moreinjuredthanowen thinks our squad is only good enough for 6th so it's fair enough for him to beg Man Utd to keep Spurs away from us

I think it's a #joke that we're not already 2nd so want the squad to put that right

My point was that to claim Utd are not within reach given the current standings is ridiculously defeatist.

Anyway, thankfully none of our wishes and counter-wishes on here will have the slightest bearing on what happens tomorrow.
So let's just wait and see......

I'm just glad that Windy didn't take it - he'd run up to the ball purposefully, spin around and run five yards backwards with it, then pass it to one of our centre-backs.

I agree. I thought it was a smart stop the first time round, but on the replay it was quite close to him.
I'm still waiting to see him make a few good saves and get the ball clear of the danger area. In all the games he's played he's really had comparatively little to do.
